my daughter just turned three. She's a little short for her age but average in weight. She a healthy kid and gets tons of running around time. We eat pretty healthy, her favorites are salad and fritata!!! problem is she's always asking for food. And i mean ALWAYS. She eats normal meals at meal time and gets snacks at snack time but she still wants more. I feel bad saying no all the time cause she's not gaining weight from it but i also don't want her develop unhealthy habits that will screw up her futur.
So what do I tell my little girl the next time she asks for food?

My kids will finish dinner, and literally five minutes later will tell me they want something else.

My youngest son thinks that breakfast is a meal best served seven times a day.

It's habit.

When she goes to the doctor next, check with him/her, but most likely, your daughter is like most kids, and just doesn't know when she's had enough of a good thing.

I sounds like you are saying her constant desire for food is above and beyond the normal level of children asking for food and extra snacks.

And what others have stated are all true.

I have to ask this how ever....When you daughter was an infant did she have problems eating? As in not wanting to suckle? Did she have low muscle tone?

I ask because there is a disorder that is genetic in nature, EVERY parent is equally at risk of giving birth to a child with this disorder. Babies generally have the the low muscle tone and can be labeled "failure to thrive" syndrome in infancy. About the age of three they become ravenous. They are hungry ALL the time. Their metabolism is very very slow. They normally are also shorter in stature as well.

If any of this sounds close to your daughter then you Need to have her genetically tested for Prader Willi Syndrome. The sooner intervention is started the better for any child.

offer her healthy snacks. if shes not over weight and shes eating healthy then theres nothing wrong with offering extra snacks. If she is doing alot of activity then shes probably more hungery. Some kids need to eat more often like 5-7 times a day, so long as it's healthy. Try more filling snacks like bananas and cheese or yogurt.

Feed her when she wants to eat but make sure it's healthy food. Keep yogurt, jello, fruit snacks, regular fruit, and veggies in a small container for her so when she is hungry she can just grab it out of the fridge and eat it. If she is not gaining weight I would not be too concerned about it. If you find that she starts to gain weight then speak to the pediatrician about your concerns. God Bless You !

If she is asking for food it means she's hungry. I would say keep feeding her good healthy things when she asks. Perhaps it's a growth-spurt.

If she is not overweight i would feed her when she asks. Or maybe give he a little more food at meals.

She may only be 3 but have you tried asking her...who know you may be shocked by her answer.
