An artist that is well known for using food to make his art, has made a life size statue of Jesus with His arms stretched out but not on a cross. He is completely naked, which is truly how He was on the cross the day He died.

This art exhibit was stopped because many Catholics were offended and the bishop of that city demanded it to be taken down because it was blasphemist. I am Catholic and my question to you is why are so many Catholics offended by this art exhibit? I don't see anything wrong with it. Would it be ok if it was on a chocolate cross? The artist calls it "My Sweet Christ". It's the artist depiction of Christ's sacrifice and it's made from chocolate becuase this artist always uses food with his exhibits.

I don't understand how this can be offensive to Catholic. Are you offended and why?

I don't think that the guy meant any harm (at worst it was slightly irreverent and tongue in cheek). Even if it isn't the kind of art that I really like I would have gone to see it. Not all art is comfortable, but not all art is deadly serious. And I think choclate sculptures are really neat.

You know after that guy who put crucifixes in jars of urine and called it art, you think people would have some perspective and humor about a chocolate crucifix at easter (the artist probably would have had better luck if he had put the loincloth on Jesus which is traditional, if not historically correct).

first i m not catholic , and you probably know who i m , and i am offended , if the artist did this to my father i would be offended , none has to be shown naked on public , so what do you think if he did it for a prophet of god whom i believe in and think he is god messenger , somethings shouldn't be messed with , like prophets , holy books
i even feel offended when Jesus is pictured any way because my religion forbids picturing god prophets , thank you anyway and i hope i wouldn't be insulted now by catholics who like to see their idol naked

To catholics, Jesus only belongs a plastic form on their dashboards or hanging on the wall. I guess being offended by that is no more ridiculous than Muslims being offend by cartoons.

I'm glad to read this. It *seemed* disrespectful to me, I guess because so many other people thought so, but I couldn't put a finger on it. It is a very beautifully-executed sculpture, technically speaking.

Sorry, I don't know why. Just like you, I am Catholic and do not see anything wrong with it.

I find it hilarious how many people are offended by art. Here's an idea, if it offends you, don't look at it.

Well, there needs to be a limit on what anyone calls Art. And that was a little over the limit.
