I can't remember but it's something to the effect of "one of us" or something. I know that doesn't make sense but it is a mafia saying. please help!

I guess you mean "COSA NOSTRA" ( "our matter","our business")

If you mean "friend of ours" that means that he is part of the family...in some case they may say "he is a friend of a friend, not a friend of ours" that suggests that he is kind of connected but not in the family.
