I bought two laptops with Vista to replace two older laptops. When I set up the laptops, neither installed 6 of the 13 programs I need for work and school. I've tried everything to get the programs to install. i used the compatibility wizard, safe mode, everything, and no go. everytime i tried, it says the program is incompatible with Vista. But now i've come to the conclusion this is what microsoft wanted. To stifle out their competition and to force consumers to buy microsoft labeled software.. We need to get something going and we need a class action lawsuit against microsoft for making a huge monoply out of this. And I am damned If i have to buy a new windows XP licence just to get the programs to work. M$ will no longer be getting my money.. screw them! i hope their developers are reading this!

oh i also forgot to mention the blue screen of death pops up every so often. hmm so nice to see that return, since windows ME!

i sold the two older laptops. Switching back to them is out of the picture. i just wish people would open their eyes and see this is a monopoly. ... i would love to switch to linux, but their program support is just as bad as vista. (no offense to linux users...until i can get my accounting software and printer drivers installed on a linux, i gotta stick with windows).

So Microsoft puts out a new operating system, shows it to all the software manufacturers, and they choose not to release a Vista compatible update or take forever to do so, and you want to sue Microsoft? Brilliant. I am not going to restate all the points that Rose D already made, but you should read her answer because she is right on the money.

Let me get this straight. You have third party software made for XP that won't install under Vista and you want to sue Microsoft? The parties at fault here are the companies that wrote the software, not MS. For years Microsoft has published standards for companies to use when writing applications for Windows, but many third parties have chosen to ignore those standards. For example, many programs written for XP require any user who uses the software to be an administrator because the software insists upon writing to the registry and protected files, which makes it a pain in a professional environment, not to mention a security threat. With Vista, Microsoft is trying to get a handle on the security and stability issues posed by not following these standards, and they are actually enforcing those standards. Software that was written properly should be able to install under Vista, it's badly-written software that's having problems. You should sue the developers who chose to cut corners in their programming for selling you bad software, not Microsoft.

Besides, if you sue Microsoft for this, why not sue Apple for making it hard or impossible to run old apps under OS X? This kind of thing is common - plenty of old Win95 software won't run under XP.

Feel free to consult with a lawyer. You'll get laughed at and become a funny story at lawyer cocktail parties, but go ahead.

You can have XP AND Linux - either by dual-booting or Virtualization.

Vista sucks - as you and millions of others have discovered.

Printing in Linux is usually not too difficult, but a few printers just don't like Linux (Lexmark are bad). HP printers LOVE Linux - HP deliberately makes them Linux-friendly.

Check out my vid of PCLinuxOS running XP Pro in Virtualization:

If you need an easy-to-use Linux distro, try PCLinuxOS. Dive into the forums - a roomful of friendly geeks are ready to help:

Almost certainly your accounting software would install and run normally in Virtualized XP under Linux.

You don't need to pay full price for another XP license. Just go to http://www.warezstore.com and tell the guys you need XP Pro - they will sell you a full CLEAN cracked copy for about $35. They are good guys - I've got a lot of stuff from them.

do u expect MS to build the next OS as per the 6 of the 13 programs u need for work and school?????

why did you buy the laptops with vista without cheking if it will solve ur need at first place..

and by the way what is ur point????if it were something related to cost of MS products then it would have been a different matter..

these things should not be posted on a forum like this anyway

The bottom line is "U DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT"
