He makes a point, but it's really on her, not the government, as she signed up voluntarily as far as I know.
There was mention of maternity leave by other answerers?? If she just had a baby and was deployed, that's just crazy! If that's indeed the case, they could have given her a better assignment to be with the new baby. I don't even know how old her kid is, though.

This is from the leader of a country that sent children to walk on minefields ahead of its soldiers during its war against Iraq.
Obviously, separating mothers and children is not something Iran has any qualms about doing.

From a strict conservative Iranian/Muslim point of view, it would seem out of order.
Ahmadinejad is quite certain that his way is the only way, so it's natural for him to ask that question. Rude perhaps, but that's not likely to slow *him* down.
Politically, he's also in a bloody awkward position, trying to maintain a facsimile of respect amongst his people and other Muslim leaders in what is a humiliating situation. So, yeah, he's going to take his shots where he can.

That man is very dangerous. He has an agenda that will never let peace be accomplished without the annihilation of anyone he sees as infidel. He is a good example of someone who has taken Islam to an extreme.

I'm curious if this is exactly what he said. I doubt they have a phrase that translates exactly as "family values" in Farsi. If he did use a comparable phrase, he might have been needling Bush's rhetoric, as he has done at other times.

I think he was correct. The world rests at the feet of mothers and one can tell what type of morals a society has by its women.

When he withdraws all of his posturing (hate-speech) against Israel and holocaust denials, I'll actually take something he says in account, until then, he's playing games in my book, just like Iranian leaders have been rattling their sabres for years.

She is getting paid to do a job. She should earn her money like everyone else. Our morals come from God, not women.
