Requirements may vary in different states, but in California, I believe you can have a notary do the officiating. There's also the option of having a friend be deputized to perform the marriage. This grants your friend or someone you know temporary power to perform marriages for a day. You'll still need witnesses of course.
My fiance was able to get temporarily deputized so that she could marry off one of her good friends. It also proved to be a lot more inexpensive than having a judge do it for you.

Not all states are recognizing online ordination. Check with your State Secretary.
In Ohio you need to be ordained and licensed by the State as well.
To find an officiant.
To find an officiant type into Yahoo your city, state & wedding officiant (no 's' on the end) You will have a few to choose from, usually on the 2nd page. The larger bridal sites seem to get top billing. If you do go to the bridal sites, please visit the site of someone you think you might like. Those bridal sites make vendors & officiants pay for your contact info so you may not hear back from someone you'd hoped.

My step-father is big into acting and such, he was asked to officate a wedding for friends of his. The couple went to a JP afterwards and made it official but no one at the ceremont knew he wasn't a priest.
Its all in what you want basically

The requirements of an officiant depend on the state you're getting married in. However, anyone can become an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church

You can get married at city hall the day before your wedding and have a friend or family member officiate the service.
I know that some have suggested the online ordination, however each state requires the person to register their ordination and that might take some time.

the person may if very lucky find a JP that will give the person a list of things to say and ask then let them stand there and pretend to be the JP the JP would have to be there to witness this all and would have to be at the front and would be the person who signs the papers . the other non professional person might get to be a witness but that would be all as far as signing .

Absolutely. I don't know the web address but anyone can get legal authorization to become a minister. My daughter was married to her husband after his best friend became a minister through the web.

You can contact the state you live in or wish to be married in and ask what would be required of someone wishing to officate a marriage cermony... Its called getting "ordained"... You can also go to wedding websites and check out their forums to see what other people are doing.
