He wrote prescription drug for a friend, and went to buy the prescription drug and got it no questions asked. Note, that he's not a doctor.

Would he get in trouble if the the prescription drugs he gave his friend have side effects or even killed the friend?

I work in a ER and someone was trying to pass off scripts under one of our MDs name.

The pharmacy called and asked questions, our MD said to call the police, the person was arrested, convicted and is now spending 8 years in prison. And that wasn't even for a controlled substance; that would have increased the sentence to over 10 years...

Tell him it was a bad idea, and not to do it again if he likes not being in jail!

First of all, he already broke the law when he wrote the prescription. This is at least a misdemeanor.

If the friend had a serious side effect or died there would probably be an investigation. If your dad was discovered, he could face much more serious criminal charges.

He's breaking the law by even having a prescription pad in the first place. He could go to jail for a very long time. The pad has probably been reported missing. Sounds like your dad and his friend might be drug addicts to me.

Yes, he committed forgery, theft, impersonating a doctor. Writing false prescriptions is a felony. It's a greater offense if the script was for a controlled substance.

Where did he get the prescription pad? Why did he do this?

If the friend dies, he is in serious trouble. I suggest contacting a criminal attorney.

It is actually a crime, even if no one gets hurt. You cannot transfer, give away, sell or share prescription medication. It is illegal.

If the friend even got pulled over on a speeding violation and the police officer saw the bottle of pills, he could get charges filed against him and the person who's name is on the bottle would get fined also. Depending on what type of prescription it was, it could mean jail time...

yes magorly thats fraud for even writing the prescription if he is not a legal doc with a license you might want to tell him to throw out the pills & not do that anymore b/c he cant get in big trouble for that if he gets caught they can put him away they even could consider him a drug dealer

He'd get in trouble for not only pretending to be a doctor, but contributing to the sale of drigs in an illegal fashion, and even more if the friend wound up dead. Everything he did is illegal.

do not do it your self, that's risky and your Dad probable might want to get in difficulty even with if he had no longer some thing to do with it. in case your dad is a medical specialist truthfully he can only prescribe it for you? :)

Of course he would, its a federal offense.

Even if his friend didn't have any ill-effects after taking the medication your dad could still be prosecuted.
