This has been sporadic for 3 years.Often it will start after 2 minutes.We have not been able to isolate any activity or sequencing that afffects this.It is not a battery issue.

Look at the starter connector lug, needs to be rewired
Is it covered with any oil or dirt?
Replace the wire slide in plug on the solenoid with the newer wire nut upgrade.
Sometimes this wire loses conductivity and causes an intermittent.

Before you check the clutch switch or neutral safety switch, check the battery cables. These are going to have a limited life and will drive the average car owner, and the experienced mechanic crazy. They can corrode on the inside and mimic a starter or alternator issue. Very common on a 9 year old car.

COULD BE VAPOR LOCK AND CAUSED BY THE FUEL INE BETWEEN THE IN TANK FULE PUMP AND THE MOTOR FULE RAIL NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS OPEN THE FUEL CAP IF YOU HEAR A VERY LOUD SWOOOSH REPLACE THE CAP AND TRY TO START IT GOOD LUCK

standard or automatic? have you checked the nuetral and or clutch safety switch to make sure it's adjusted properly? Which is it not doing starting or cranking???? it can crank without starting but can not start without cranking
