One of the things young christians learn in sunday school is that God is infallable and has everything planned out. Conveniently enough, this also means that if you believe in God, you won't question him. When others do question God, christians take up a defense of greater understanding and will often use "faith" as the answer.
Unfortunately christianity is misrepresented by the churches that profit from it, and in turn they use tactics similar to brainwashing to keep control of those who pay their weekly dues.
So as a direct answer to the questions, often people who do not believe in the Bible and try to challenge it to a christian, often really don't understand how the bible is used within the church, and that disproving a biblical account or story is not as simple as they like to think.
Yes christians tend to believe those who are not christians are missing the big picture and will be worse off for it.
Believing in the Bible is not an automatic sign that someone is closed minded or lacks common sense. There are many records that support claims in the Bible, so it is still a historicly significant book. But yes... many do need to take a step back and look at reality.

1) The comment that you found something that wasn't true is a condition that is keeping you from understanding the Bible.
2) What you call 'common sense' is not necessarily the truth.
3) You are not the authority that people can turn to for an educated answer on Biblical things, are you?
4) On the other side of the fence, it's you who are missing out.
5) I have found that non christians suck at scriptural exegesis.
6) What's obvious to you may just be things that you don't understand.
7) If you claim not to be a recipient of the Holy Spirit, then you are, according to the Bible, not gaining the undertanding that the Holy Spirit is bringing those who do. You simply lack the judgement capacity to know how much to weigh a certain verse as to it's meaning. The Holy Spirit brings that as a Christian continually learns to trust God in the many ways God can be trusted.
8) With the understanding that a Christian has, we move along the logic that God brings pretty much along lines of axiomatic revelation, and begin to get a better picture on what is gained. What the scriptures mean, and how God reacts to certain things.
It's not as simple as you think. you have mangaed to call all those who study scripture and believe it nonsensical.

The Bible is the inspired and infallable Word of God. That means there is nothing in it that is false. People who do not believe in it ARE missing out - on everything. The Bible proves itself as true. No other book in existance was written thousands of years ago with prophecy (foretelling of events to happen) that has been fulfilled. History and archaelogy has proven the Bible is true I think that people who do not believe and the Bible "need to get a bit of common sense". Believers have faith through Christ Jesus; therefore salvation. Who needs more?

Well I have to say that if I was talking to some one that was trying to prove the Bible wrong that they would have to have some good information to change my mind. Not just trying to state what they think is obvious. I would have to also point out that for a book that is not true it sure has been around a long time.
I do feel that people who don't believe in God are missing out. But this is my opinion. I would not set and argue with some one if they were being unreasonable and argumentative. So I guess it would just all depend on who I was talking to.

Live the Christians alone, we don't think we are cleverer than anyone!!!! we Just believe in Jesus, whats the problem with that??? if you don't believe in Him, then that's YOUR PROBLEM!!!!
We don't think we understand everything, I am christian and I don't even understand what I am doing on this planet, that's God business and only He knows the reason.
Also I am christian, and I think that I have read the bible like twice in my hole life, because what I believe is that all that is written there can be resumed in one word: LOVE!

Think about it, they believe something so strongly. When an atheist points out the flaws in their myth, of course they take it personally - they have built their entire lives around this story. I can understand why they take it personally, I just don't understand why they think they are better than everyone because they are part of that club. All they have is faith, that's it, and a book full of circular logic, they have to fight for their beliefs. As christians, they have to prove god to me, as an atheist, I just have to sit back - I can't disprove something that doesn't exist.

No, we are not more clever because for some of us we take our commission seriously and that is to preach the Good News of Gods Kingdom, teaching them to observe all the things that he as commanded.
