If you took the statement as an insult then to you it is a insult.
as to your question: contextually you were discussing theology with theologians. Do you not expect theology from a theologian. a discussion is an exchange of ideology.

Self-righteousness is pride, that is the pride of the devil. Pride is sin. It is not necessarily what you say so much as how you say it. If there is a tone of arrogance, then self-righteousness is present. Self-righteous people believe that they need only themselves to get at God, or that they can live life on their own terms without the aid or assistance of anyone else. they believe that they can do it all own their own. Problem is, none of us can live without everyone else---no man is an island. Even the hermit must come out of his hole once in a while to gather food and new clothing.

have u ever attempted to actually find out for yourself others beliefs and i dont mean just read about it. faith has to be used in any belief studing and finding out are 2 different things. when people say that its because their ignorant or maybe have just given up b/c they know if they told u how great their god is u will just blow it off b/c u already have ur own beliefs. i think when most people say that its all out if good faith thinking u might be curious as to why. their is a great god out there that says do nothing but good. my question is how can that be so bad. thats all this world does is complain about the bad things instead of trying to do what good.

No, but isn't it nice to know that something you consider either non-existing or insignificant still cares about you anyway? I doubt whomever made the comment was trying to be self-righteous or disrespectful. The person is obviously a devout believer in their faith and made the comment as more of a comfort to themselves so they won't worry so much about you and how different your beliefs are. It was more likely their way of showing tolerance to your beliefs. Better tolerance than intolerance. Right?

For some people, their religious experience is evangelical, meaning that they must spread the "word" and attempt to convert others to their belief system (typically because it is viewed as the only truth). By definition, it would be a breach of their own beliefs to accept that your beliefs are possible. My guess is that it wasn't a matter of rudeness per se, but that your beliefs extend beyond the realm of acceptable possibilities for the person you were talking with.

The Truth IS there - and it IS your right to accept it or not.
Self-righteous? No...I wouldn't say so. Self-righteous would be declaring that "their" opinion mattered more than you and that they were better people because of their belief.
That does not mean that they totally discounted all your beliefs as less than the one they hold - it just means they value their beliefs higher than those of yours.

you're asking a set of questions and that i'm specific you have lots greater. I understand the place you're coming from. a needed question to respond to is what does it mean to be a Christian? the respond is calling and accepting Jesus into your existence. For me, this did no longer come until eventually I meet Jesus on considered one of of the darkest days of my existence, when I had lost all wish in existence. That day replaced into think to be the final for me, until eventually I meet Jesus. on account that that day, I even have favourite Jesus as my Savior and am devoting my existence to stick to him and construction MY very own courting with him and God. it truly is particularly important. it truly is a private courting. The bible does have some weird and wonderful, and as you suggested "Outrageous" teachings, yet you make an effort learn precisely what they mean, then you truly will come to ensure that they are no longer as outrageous as you think of they are. Jesus is a thank you to God and the only way. Accepting Jesus into your existence as your lord and savior is the only way into heaven. whilst hell might appear as if a frightening place, yet once you agree for Jesus into your existence then you truly won't might desire to subject approximately that. I understand what you mean approximately hectic related to the folk around you. I do too, which portion of the clarification why Christians might desire to attain out to different individuals and attempt to lead them to Jesus. even nevertheless, people won't pay attention to you, this you may possibly desire to understand. there are multiple "Christians" available that are hateful and boastful. As a real Christian, you're following Jesus. i might truly go with to chat to you greater. in case you go with to have self belief and be a Christian, you're taking the 1st step and getting solutions to three of your questions.

You are correct to feel that way, but don't worry about it. Of course you have the right to believe in anything you want to believe in or in whatever makes sense to you. I am an atheist, but I will never tell you that your beliefs are less valid than mine. If you want to worship a potato, then feel free to do so. I've never believed that any religion is absolutely right or wrong, but I absolutely believe that they can be right or wrong for you, the individual.

Try not to discuss subjects such as theology if you are going to be hypersensitive(try talking about rainbows and bunny rabbits). It's a very personal subject and people tend to be passionate about it. As far as the comment it sounds a bit cliche but not at all offensive

that is the nature of religion now....a reason to look down on other people because of an invisible/unprovable IDEA
it really is sad
if more people lived by the golden rule instead of SELECTIVE interpretations of "scripture" we would all be better off. in ancient times a man's "gods" were tolerated because no one really knew who or what god was....funny thing we still do not know we just try to convince others that we do.
my opinion
