Yes, this could hurt your child. By diluting it with water you are decreasing the calorie content but the baby will stiill feel full from the water. Babies innately know how much to consume. This could cause weight loss and eventually death. I recently heard a sorry on the news of a mother who couldn't afford formula so she was diluting it. The baby died and she is being charged with neglect and manslaughter. Please do not do this. If you need to stretch out breast milk dilute it with formula.

No, you should not dilute it. it is unhealthy technique to increase amout of breast milk. your breast milk has already enough amount of water that is required by baby. till 6 months of age baby gets only breast milk nothing else then you can gradually switch baby to weaning foods. cereals, rice. etc.
If you are having less breast milk to feed your baby then consult doctor regarding your problem. but mixing water is bad idea.

Breastmilk is the perfect food for your baby. By diluting it you are taking away the valuable nutrients your baby needs.
If you are low on breastmilk, substitute a feeding with formula before diluting your milk.

Why would you want to dilute breast milk? God created it perfectly for babies. It needs nothing but to be given to the baby. God created no mistakes.
