However, if you can get hold of a pro-bono lawyer who can do the whole processing for you, that would be the best. Check with non profits in your area if they know of any lawyer who can help your club do this for free.

If you are eligible as a charity under the law, you'd apply to the IRS for 501(c)3 designation. Many states also have registration requirements for charities.
