I mean, the oil will run out someday or people will finally come to their senses to start developing alternative energy sources. Shouldn't the people/governments there start thinking about it instead behaving as the wells will never run dry?

Well the middle east is going to have some pretty big changes happening (like the fact that pretty much every country there other than Israel will go bankrupt).

Most of the governments will probably end up going down because they just aren't going to be able to afford to provide any services for the people nor are they going to be able to afford the large security apparatus needed for an oppressive government.

A lot of middle eastern states are looking at nuclear power to replace oil and that is a good move (much better than the politically correct sources that aren't going to be enough) particularly considering that Saudi Arabia seems to have already peaked.

They're also going to need to find an industry other than oil to keep the money flowing in (having a lot of oil can be a liability because it allows one to neglect other industries which is largely what has happened in the Middle East).

I look forward to the day that it does. By that time or way before that, people would have developed a lot better, cleaner, cheaper sources of energy. The middle east would return to what it originally was, useless barren deserts. No more oil money, no more free ride for all those Arabs. No more terrorist funding. Cleaner environment. The shock on the world economy caused by oil running out will eventually work itself out. Life would be great.

Well, the middle east will probably witness a mass exodus as there will be fewer jobs, and less money coming in to the region in general.

And yes, people SHOULD stop acting like the well never runs dry... it does, and it will, and someday we will have to face the consequences of that.... the problem is that the people in power probably won't.... they'll all die before it happens, so what do they care?

They probably should think about using alternative sources of energy, there are scientists who are working on it, but they are not given enough attention. I guess each individual should ask themselves why that is happening. Why does the world need a big part of its population to die of starvation and diseases that CAN be kept under control and another part of its population to die in stupid wars?(the most obvios answer would be overpopulation)

I suppose they 'should', but the region hasn't made a positive contribution to the modern world in 2000 years. I wouldn't count on them for much.
