Fair question - one has to manage all one's emotions, but anger is one of the toughest for most. The wild horse that won't be broken. All one can really do is maintain a solid core center of belief and intent. When anger sprouts, channel it to something productive. It's no trite coincidence that anger is associated with fire. Left to it's own design, it can be all-consuming and destructive. Put to good use, it can motivate one to do great things. If you have the intent to promote good in the world, then you can channel your anger to refine or hone your perspective; anger has a way of clarifying a particular path, but, there is always an inherent danger that requires one to exercise extreme caution. As for the positive outlook, where is it written that this should be the norm? Sometimes, the best all that one has is one precious moment in time of sublimity, the rest, constant struggle.

Think about the good things most of the time. When something makes me angry I take a deep breath and ask myself why. If it's because I'm being selfish I have to let it go. If it's because there is a good reason to be angry I subdue my reaction and find a positive way to address the issue. I also spend time telling God exactly what makes me angry and why. He usually has a very positive comeback.

I rarely get angry. At most, I get irritated/annoyed/aggravated.

I have a positive outlook because I can see how the media lives off of feeding you death, war, destruction as these things keep people from changing the channel. I also travel a lot so I get to see that the world is a really beautiful place with predominantly decent/good people trying to get by.

It is not so much subduing your anger as it is channeling that energy. If you are angry at someone or about something it is best to find a method of release (venting). A stress ball, yelling out loud in your car during rush hour (so no one will hear you) or releasing that energy during a workout or hitting a punching bag, speed bag. I exercise to and yell during rush hour as my way to vent. I also look at the big picture how does the thing that is making me angry really matter on the big scale. It is easier to forgive and move on, rather than getting anger and not only allowing them to rob your joy but increase your blood pressure and other physically unhealthy issues that come from anger.

If it is a friend or coworker that angers you check this out. When people interact with you, they are basically revealing themselves to you in small "soundbites". Once they show themselves to you you know where they are at and how to interact with them. If they have revealed themselves as someone who upsets you and others then understand that and don't let them get a rise out of you.

Anger has an adverse effect on your health and it robs you of your joy. an elderly lady once told me, you that angry and lettin' that person stay on your mind that long, you should charge them rent for occupying your brain. translation don't let em sweat ya. Stay you and be happy, keep your joy.

I keep my perspective.

The vast majority of the trouble in the world would never have come to our attention 100 years ago and still does not directly affect most of us.

That doesn't mean you never join the fight on the side of right, but you should keep in mind that for most things you are just an indignant spectator and take a deep breath.

Also, limit your exposure to the media. I'm not saying be ignorant. I'm saying take time to catch up once a day and don't site there watching able news shows and boiling your blood at night.

Focus: Control your breathing and remind yourself of what you can and can't influence and to what degree, and do what you can about what you can alter, don't fret what you can't influence.

Remember everyone has issues, some people have lots, most know little if anything about you, and as they flounder about in life they make smack up against you. You can't control them, just you. Be who you chose in every situation. Don't let situations dictate your ethics or your character.

Finally, you somewhere have an image tucked away of your most perfect, most noble and most heroic self. Take that image out and study it before reacting.

That's my best.

Read positive books that I can apply to my life.

Don't read or view negative or hateful things.

Sing happy songs. (With a young child in the house, we really like Chicken Soup For Little Souls - What a Wonderful World. It's hard to be upset when singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" or any of the various other catchy happy songs.)

When something doesn't go my way (and when does everything go anyone's way?) and I feel anger lurking that's when I pray for peace in my heart towards the person or situation causing the anger. God never fails.

Repression or Repentance. Repression is rooted in pride, believing you can stop doing bad and do good. Repentance is rooted in humility, believing that you can't stop doing bad and do good, but that only through God you can. The problem with repression is that it doesn't last forever, eventually all that anger you buried will be released in a more hideous way than ever. The great thing about humility is that you have the freedom to cast your problems onto God, receive forgiveness and the power to forgive others. Don't subdue your anger, let it go.

Polygonism teaches that although anger is a negative emotion, it should not be viewed as a bad thing.
The best way to 'defuse', or indeed, diffuse anger is through laughter, so, any time a Polygonist feels angry, they seek a source of humour, or parody, such as many of the answers given here in R&S.
The Great Lizard teaches that there is nothing set to make one laugh quite like the foolishness of one's fellows.
A wise teaching, indeed.

Hum....that is one that has to be dealt with constantly.
When driving, I try to ignore the behavior and focus on something else.
In public, I always pray before I go out so that the Angels of the Lord protect me. I think of the fact, that I am the witness and servant of the Lord, wherever I go.
Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

I pray for wisdom always. To love and be at peace with others.

Romans 12:18
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Hebrews 12:14
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
