I do alot of animal work and know quite a lot about them but needed more help right now!

I have a 3 yr old neutered male cat, and we recently got a black kitten about 6 months old, also neutered. They love eachother and really get along well. They get plenty of food and water and toys and love. They are indoor kitties, as we live near a busy street and there are also coyotes in the area.
But lately hes been crying non stop! At our old house he used to be able to be in the yard while I watched ( so he wouldnt escape) but cant at this new house.
He sits at the door and cries for hours. I try to distract him with something else but it doesnt help. And now, at night he just wanders around 'meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow' and its starting to drive us mad!!
What can I do to figure out his crying? Or to stop it?

My cat(s) were outdoor cats until we moved. Now they are indoor cat(s). One in particular meowed and cried all the time to be let out.....finally I put him on a 'lead'.

I attached a clothes line type rope from my back door frame and ran it to a tree in our backyard. I put a small dog harness (not the figure 8 harness for cats-they escape from it) on him and attached the harness to the line so he can run around fairly freely and can't run into traffic or into the neighbors yard (they have vicious dogs). He's happier now and has stopped his howling and yowling.

You didn't say if it was a special bread of cat. Siamese are know to cry like that. He may just want his feedom as all my male cat's have all tried to go out on there own neutered of not, at a certain age. Is he vet checked an all health. My sister's dog did that and we took it to the vet found out it had Cancer and was in pain. If it's not medical maybe it is just jealous of the kitten and crying for attention.

Hi, that sounds like a breed issue. People try to put one size fits all on cats and dogs, but breeding for hundreds of years for particular purposes often creates goofy "things" to pop out like this with your pet..I don't know if this is a full blooded or heinz57 see if you can pin down the most dominant breed in your kitty and find a website dedicated to those it never ceases to amaze me how accurate groups of people are about a particular breed of anything. OH, yeah, it could be this poisoned food thing too.. if he's got trace amount of that stuff in the foods his renal system is bothering him annd at night when it is quiet is when he's notice it more.. when we lie still and are in pain, we don't get up and wander like cats do..plus kitties tend to go to their food bowl in the dark at nights.. they just like that ...don't know why. Please tell me you are feeding your precious kitty homemade people food for the next month or so until all of that food has been remade repackaged and restocked. It is a shame allll pet food hasnt' been removed from the store shelves, especially when every day they are still added companies and brands to the lists. Please get your kittys renal system checked..kidneys etc. God Bless, will pray for your kitty and Jesus heals kitty s too.

Apparently he likes the sound of his own voice, it's entertaining to him. Get some cat toys that excite him, it may take his mind off wandering and meowing. Switching cat toys from time to time can make old ones seem brand new to cats. In time he will forget that he used to be able to go outdoors and settle down.... meanwhile get earplugs!

Talk to your veterinarian. maybe the cat is craving vitamins that it normally gets outdoors from grass. There are foods you can buy with these vitamins in it. Or maybe its just that your cat misses playing outside, which maybe the vet can help give some ideas of what you can do to make your cat feel comfortable inside (like maybe some indoor toys that are similiar to outside activities) Good Luck!

Ah You changed his/her environment by moving. Kitty loved being outside, you should take it outside with you for awhile. A lot of cats that are indoors only stray 50 yards out of the yard.

One reason might be because you turned him from an 'indoor/outdoor' cat to an 'indoor' cat. You took away a 'liberty' a 'freedom.' It is a very intrinsic behavior/belief...most animals do this, especially social ones.
The more he valued his freedom, the more he will miss it.

It could also be health related. Bring him into a vet for a check up and talk to them about it.

Poor baby - he longs for sunshine and bugs. Try planting some cat grass in a little pot. That will give him something natural to sniff and chew on - and if possible - buy a little cat harness and leash and take him out for a few minutes every evening if you can.

Well, the kitten is very young to be taken from it's mother. Ideally they should be 12 weeks, but can be taken at 8. Try feeding it some kitten milk formula, this could remind it of it's mother perhaps and calm it down. Good luck!

He probably has not gotten used to his new environment yet. How long has it been? Hopefully he will adjust soon. Or if it has been a while, is the weather there starting to change? Maybe he didn't care about going out before, but now that's it's Spring, he wants to get out there.
