She was obviously too self-absorbed to acknowledge the fact that it was your birthday. She cared more about getting someone to cover her for work than your special day. Not much point in saying anything to her about it because she'll probably accuse you of overreacting or being too sensitive when she was the one who was being insensitive. Sounds to me like she's not really your friend -- she seems more interested in what you can do for her than being a friend to you. Don't waste your time on her.

I'd say your guess is 100% accurate. EVERYONE is too preoccupied with themselves and at the moment, she was too concerned about who was going to work that night.
I'd wait a while and see if she asks you how you're birthday was, and if she doesn't, you'll probably forget about it before you know it, knowing she didn't mean anything personal by it. She's only a co-worker ... if it was your friend or family, then I'd be upset.
When her birthday comes around, be sure not to say Happy Birthday to her if that'll make you feel better!

Well, first and foremost, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! I don't know where you're from, but I am sending you birthday greetings from New York. I just turned 37 on March 26th.
PS - Yes, I think your friend was preoccupied with her dilemma of finding a babysitter, rather than the fact that it's your birthday. Don't waste your time telling her it hurt your feelings - just tell a dear friend of yours who cares. If it still bothers you, tell her the next time you see her. I think it'll pass by then.

I'd let it go. She was probably just thinking of herself - there's nothing you can do about it, but by saying "Then I have to work tonight" is a clue that she wanted your sympathy which you really didn't owe her. It's your birthday and you deserved the night off.
People like that just need to get over themselves. Ignore it and enjoy your day - I wouldn't let it really get to you.
Happy birthday!

Yes, she probably desperately needed someone and forgot to mention it. If she was suppose to be her friend, you need to forgive also, and remain friends.. Say something to cheer her up.. Sometimes, with friends you gotta help the others more, than you getting all the works.. Forgive, forget, and be friends.. That's what it's all about..friends..
By the way, Happy Birthday to you.

Let it go. Seeing as she asked you at such a last minute she must have had something she wanted to do. She's aggravated because she's missing out on something she wants to do or she was preoccupied because she now has to figure out how to make it fit in her schedule. It probably didn't even occur to her.
Seriously, this is one of the things you just need to let go. It's not a battle worth fighting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! She probably felt really bad about it after hanging up, but was too embarrased to give you a call back. Don't worry about it. You're not spending your birthday with her anyway. HAVE FUN!

She was very rude. I wouldn't bother saying anything to her about it. Just let it go.
Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great one.
