Hi, A nice gal from here told me to keep good track of my 2 small business expenditures, down to the penny, she is an acct. that I should buy Microsoft Office so I get excell ( my main need) and whatever. I would like to spend the least amount of money to get what I need. Can I go to ebay or such and buy an older model. I have a Compaq that is about 1 year old and Windows XP. I just need it to keep track of my ebay sellings etc. and they are rather small at this time, altho many. I also sell DT and would like to do that and make a home budget. She said stay with excell because it has what I need. Suggestions for where to buy used or cheap or what is this going to cost would really help too. thanks so much, remember, I can answer questions about parenting and elem ed and preschool and parenting, much experience here and of course I'll answer Christian or religious too :)

Hello from a fellow traveler along the narrow road. Nice avatar.
If you just want to use simple Excel and Word, you do NOT need the latest & greatest. You can do very well with MS-Office 1997 or 2000. The 2003 version is probably still relatively expensive.
Go to Craigslist; you should be able to buy a used copy of MS-Office ( make sure it is a legitimate copy with the Code Key ), for about $10-$20. I prefer CL to eBay, as you can actually see what you buy, and most times the seller is willing to help a little ( like installation etc ).

If you're talking about software? If you're talking about a spreadsheet, and want specifically Excel, then go for Office Basic (the smallest version of Office). Go to www.microsoft.com and they have a comparison chart which shows the editions of office and what each "version" of Office has. If you want a *free* piece of software that has a spreadsheet then OpenOffice is a good bet. It has a spreadsheet program called Calc. Beware that OpenOffice is a LONG download! (It includes a word processor, a database program, a spreadsheet, and other stuff, which is an almost full replacement for Office!) You may prefer to fetch a CD for it, which you may acquire for about $15 through Amazon or other sources...

you purchased a Microsoft workplace trial. you should use constrained good factors such extremely some circumstances without putting in the most. The product key on the facet of your workstation is for the workstation, no longer for this technique. this technique is an completely diffrent product. the merely difficulty you are able to do is to purchase the product. (domicile and workplace 2007 runs about $one hundred and fifty). there is not any different option. you're paying for the product. it really is like getting a chunk of workout kit off an infomercial on a loose path. to keep the product, you ought to pay for it. Sorry. strong success.

Any old version should work, but why not use a free alternative?
Open Office is a free alternative that works in a very simular way to MS Excell. You can even open excell files and save in an Excell format:
http://www.openoffice.org/product/calc.html
http://download.openoffice.org
Or if you have high speed Internet, you can do everything online thanks to Google:

My recommendation is to get OpenOfice.org. It is free and has about the same capabilities as Microsoft Office. It can read and write most Office files.
