Yes, tattooing is painful. You shouldn't get a tattoo because as you get old, the tattoo will look nastier and nastier. When you're really old, it'll just be disgusting. I have been told this by people who have gotten tattoos. Plus, you risk the chance of infection.

I have tattoos on both feet- for SOME people they tend to fade, based on the fact that your feet do a LOT of work! The skin is rough and tough, and spends all day rubbing in shoes and socks. My stuff looks as good as the day I got it, which would have been about 8 years ago. In MY opinion, it doesn't hurt more than most places you could tattoo. I am pretty covered (full back and sleeves) so, I might simply be used to it? (I def. think that the crook of my arm hurt a LOT though... ouch) Either way... rolling stones or not... wouldn't a tongue ON your foot be a rather odd.. er.. "statement"? Also, foot tattoos can be a bit of a pain in the butt to heal- especially if you work, and must wear shoes! Good luck:)

ok...I have a tattoo on the top of my right foot and another on the outside of my left going up around my ankle...
The one on the top of my foot WAS the most painful (untill I got the one around my ankle). It hurt worse than any other tattoo I've had done. My sister also says her's hurt the worst.
Together we have tattoo on the lower back, shoulders, shoulder blades, feet, ankels and hip. When I got mine done, my foot was shaking and there was nothing I could do about it, and it was soar for a few days after wards.

Numbing cream...yeah right!!! Most artist wont use it unless it's on your head, face or genitalia. Even then, they say, if you can't take the pain you don't deserve the tattoo...

As for shoes...I wouldn't put shoes on untill the next day atleast. I would wait a few days if you can. But If you have to put shoes on, make sure you put lots of cream on your tattoo, then put thick socks on...It'll help.

If this is your first tattoo...I really encourage you to rethink it. My artist suggest for people to get a tattoo is a less painful area before the foot(or other very painful spots) to see how you deal with the pain there first. If the less painful spots make you want to die, then don't get one more painful, but if it's bearable and you think you can take more then go for it....

If it's not your first tattoo and you were ok with your first one then go for it...I LOVE BOTH OF MINE!!!! I've had the one on my right foot about as long as I've had the one on the small of my back, and they are both just as dark as they used to be (after 2 years)...If it's something you want, then go for it, but YES!! It will hurt...

Here's a small article that might help...

Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!

i have tattoos on top of both of my feet and they were the most painful tattoos i have gotten yet. however i have a friend who got a foot tattoo a week ago and she said it really din't hurt much. so i guess it just depends on the person.

you CAN NOT wear shoes or socks on your newly tattooed foot. ideally you should wait two weeks. depending on the size of the tattoo your foot will likely swell and be very painful for a few days. it is best if you can keep your foot elevated as much as possible to keep the swelling to a minimum. some people do wear shoes afterward but it is extremely painful to try in my opinion and you run the risk of messing up your tattoo.
tattoos need to be unrestricted and socks and shoes are very stuffy and not a great environment for a new tattoo.
maybe you should wait until your sports stuff is done.

I got a tattoo of stars on the top of my foot. It hurt pretty bad when he outlined it but not as much when he colored it in. The guy at the place told me its one of the most painful places to get tattoos because the skin is sensitive and very thin. they didnt but numbing cream on mine but at some places they might. Also, they told me not to wear shoes that rubbed it until it was totally healed. I had to wear flipflops for a month. And whatever you do, keep it covered with tattoo goo. Never let it get dry, the colors will fade when it peels.

Tattoos on the foot are excruciating! But they are beautiful. As long as it is small, it's easy to bear. I will warn you that I got one on the side of my foot and it has faded after a year. It looks like I've had it 10 years!!!! I will need to get it retouched soon. As far as shoes go--it needs room to breathe and heal. If you have to wear socks and sneakers right away, put a water proof bandage over it for the time being. Otherwise, wear shoes that allow it to breathe and heal for 10 days at least.

Good luck. I still love my foot tat!

pain.....that's relative.

the shoes, well I would at least try to skip wearing them for a week. if you absolutely HAVE to wear them, then take some cream and put it over the tat. then cover it in saran wrap. wrap it around your foot, under the arch and keep it tight. then put your sock over it, being careful not to pull the wrap away form the tattoo. it might be a little uncomfortable, but you shouldn't damage the fresh ink that way. just make sure you air it out as soon as you can. don't leave the shoe on for any longer than you have to.

peace

I got a tattoo on the top of my foot. The first time I got it done, it hurt. When I got the color touched up, it didn't hurt at all. Weird... but I think it was because the guy really took his time and was more careful the second time. You just got to watch out for your nerves and muscles jerking. You really can't control it, but you got to try. Never heard of numbing cream being used... Good luck!

Yes it is painful but it wont be long before your foot will be in so much pain it wont hurt no more, You can put numbing creame on but basically the tatooist has to cleanse the area of skin before applying the ink so it will most likely be washed off. It does hurt because your little foot bones are right there but like I said it will numb itself after so long.

I have a tattoo of a lizard on my foot and yes, it was really painful, but totally worth it. I love my tattoo! It's especially painful when they fill in the color. Everyone experiences pain differently though. What is painful for one person, isn't painful at all for another. If you just relax and spend your time chatting and having fun with the person working on you, it'll be over before you know it.
