It drives me crazy. He chews on dvds and the boxes, the corners of our walls and has an obsession for chewing off stickers on anything. The only thing is he doesnt bite other people, which im pretty glad for. Anyone had this same problem w/ their child?

I do disciplin him whenever he does it... so trust me that part was covered. As for the teething thing, maybe but highly unlikely. As for the pica deal.. thanks, i will most definitly look into that! thanks all

Oh, and he doesnt necessarily "eat" (swallow) the substances. just chews off and spits out or keeps the stuff in his mouth (such as stickers and paper.. things of that nature). As for pieces of the wall he spits that out.

This is called Pica. See the attached and then see your pediatrician.

I would take him to the pediatrician. Only because chewing on things that drastically could be some sort of vitamin deficiency.
Also chewing on walls that have a led paint base is not good at all
And I am sure that the things they make the DVDs with is not healthy
Good luck And please don't wait to long.
Led poisoning can be pretty bad.

Your 2 and a half year old may still be teething, causing a need to chew on everything in sight. Teething toys like cardboard baby books will help even if your child is not teething.

Your the parent find something you can do to let your child know your the boss and its not ok to do that- ie: tap on the hand, mouth, a little pinch- something if words dont work-
- to stop him from chewing on all of your possessions make sure your things are put up and your child has PLENTY of toys laying around to keep him occupied- There are TONS of teething toys, and try orajel to numb his gums.- When your childs sneaky little fingers get on something of yours take it away from him. tell him no and hand him one of his teething toys. ---GOOD LUCK!

I should of named my youngest puppy, I swear. she is just now getting over that. She still chews on flip flops. I just had to keep things picked up and scold her for chewing on things. You may want to check with a dentist maybe his teeth hurt.

He has pica, which means that something is missing in his diet. Talk to the pediatrician. Are you giving him vitamins? The best resource is Baby and Childcare by Dr. Benjamin Spock. You can probaby buy it on Amazon.com. It is extremely helpful.
