I think that it can be true on certain aspects of belief comes into play. I'm a christian and I can make that statement because if you look into the past, you will see that the Roman Catholic Church once thought that it was a good idea to outlaw the use of Bibles-- especially if they weren't in Latin. That had to change because there were too many who were rebelious to the RCC who still circulated Bibles.
Now as far as what T.S. Elliot was talking about, I don't really know. I saw your link and thought that it wasn't too surprising. I noticed that there wasn't a nimrod/talmuz there. why is that? because that pagan religion only had two?
If you don't see that there are Biblical references to Jesus being God, the Father being God, and the Holy Spirit being God, and that God is still one, then you don't know the Bible. It says that no matter whaat anyone else believed, and as far as modern day religions go, existed before many of them did.
That being said, the Trinity is merely an attempt to describe God's relationship, His essence and being. It isn't an accurate representation of God, and shouldn't be taken as that.

People who need to adapt to believe are what christians can pagans. The bible is so simple, a child could understand it. There is no need for change, only that man who cannot grasp or simplify its non-complex ideals shapes it to fit his lifestyle and preaches it to the weaker minded who follow him blindly. Thats why its a common belief amongst christians that more than half of us are going to hell anyway.

To adapt would mean to change. The first christians believed that Jesus died for the forgiveness of sins and so do christians now...so I don't see how adaptation would've occured.

I'm sure he was speaking of 'Christian' religions, which may have been founded properly but strayed after they became religion. Perhaps you can't recognize true Christianity, and perhaps neither could he...in fact, it is obvious to me that he couldn't.
