Perhaps because life on earth is not about temporary happiness, but discovering the things that lead to eternal happiness. And thus life here often involves growth and testing which results in joy - but in the meantime, there may be sorrow and adversity. I encourage you to set your sights on heaven, not earth. For as God has said, "I have plans to prosper you..." God Bless.

I take it you are a christian? Listen up. Your non christian friends are no happier than you and you aren't miserable just because you're a christian. Everyone puts on a special face for the public. That face is worn with our friends, co workers, checkers in the grocery store, for the taxi cab driver...that face can often seem happy, comfortable and somehow so much better than you. No matter who you are it always seems like someone else has a better life, has more money, is more beautiful, etc.
Underneath all of those faces sits the real person. They might feel ugly, stupid, fat...different. not like everyone else feels.
Those people you think are so happy have the same fears and insecurities that you have. What makes you different
is that you have a belief. A faith that helps keep you going when the going gets tough. You have some extra support in your foundation. An anchor in a storm.
Why are you feeling miserable? what is it that makes you think your non christian friends are happy? Maybe they hit the dance clubs every night and you sit at home with a tub of popcorn and a good movie? What do you want that they have? ask yourself these questions and talk to someone close to you about them. You can always give up your faith and join the crowd...but you don't really want that. You are different and that's what makes you great.

Good Luck

Well, isn't the question really, why are you so miserable? Why are you so miserable?

I'm just some guy on the net. Why don't you have a sit down with a friend or counselor. I you don't know where your sorrow comes from find out. If you don't know what to do about it, learn what can be done.

I can't tell you but I can eco a very similar question!

Why was I so myserable for 30 years as a Christian but then after I converted to Islam at 31 years. My life became so peaceful and contented. A religion that everyone claims is opressive to woman, yet for the first time in my life I feel free.

For the first time in my life I feel no need to keep up with the Jones.

Their happiness is based upon the world and the world is passing away. And as they world passes away, so will their happiness. There will be no happiness in hell. As for you, you need to find joy in the Lord. Bible study will instill happiness in you. It will show you how corrupt the world is and that the world is heading for destruction. Knowing that someday you will be with Christ should make you happy. Disassociate yourself from non-Christians unless it is missionary related. Negativity has a way of rubbing off on people.

Maybe you are depressed. Go see a doctor. I have both with varying degrees of happytude. Oh, and by the way, just to let you know, if you are looking to be constantly happy, there is no such thing. You are never going to be always happy. We have ranges of emotions. Right now I am not un-happy, but I'm also not euphoric. Maybe that's your problem, you think you must be constantly happy.

I'm an atheist.I think it's because we don't have to worry about offending the 'father figure' in the sky. We--or at least I-- try to live more in the moment, so as to enjoy this one life we have more.

But not all atheists are happy all the time.

I doubt that ALL of your non-Christian friends are off scale euphoric but it does seem that non-Christians are happier with life. Are people drawn to Christianity because they are afraid and unhappy or does this belief make people that way? Your call....

Ignorance is bliss....Nonchristians are not concerned about their eternal destiny so they have less guilt over what they do.

many people are happy because they have what they want.

your life might be difficult and have unhappy things in it. but keep these temporal things separate from spiritual things which can make you happy.

Christianity relies a lot on guilt. They always remind people that they are bad but, will save them by believing in what they preach and putting money in their basket.
