No worries It's not like I am starving myself, I just wanted to hear from people who have tried. I would never have the motivation to do that nor would I want to screw my metabolism up.

Yes i used to fast frequently for my religious beliefs. I actually enjoyed it and did particularly find that it helped my focus. Our church had us donate the food we would have eatten that day for charity, but I was in high school and completely broke so I did it to help improve my spiritual devotion and conserve money so that I could eat the next day. It has been a lot of years and gas prices have nearly tripled, but I had $20 a week budget back then which I could either eat or drive, but not both. I usually chose my car.

Your question: How hard/easy was it? I found it amazingly easy. You are allowed to drink, water or tea. Water is a food suppressor in most workout routines. So it's not like you are starving. My body doesn't need food every day--we Americans eat too much as is. It's a great time to reflect on those who really don't have all the food they could ever eat. However, the teenage guys that shared my religious beliefs found it nearly unbearable and went around the entire day grabbing their stomachs as if they were about to die.

But no it doesn't screw your metabolism up. Your body's metabolism doesn't change in a day. But yes I imagine if you fasted for 5-10 days like some of the monks do that it would screw your body up.

Either way, I found it refreshing and with numerous catholics that I am around, I also fast on Ash Wednesday (when I remember cause I forget Ash Wed a far amount) and Good Friday (much easier to remember). And don't worry--no one thinks you are starving yourself. If you were you wouldn't have posted "starving" for a day. =)

Yeah, when I was a teen I went thru an anorexic phase. Not eating for an entire day is tough, but after a few days of not eating anything or hardly anything your body gets use to it and you just aren't that hungry. Also, I've heard your stomach shrinks after going for a long time w/o alot of food. This is probably true b/c now I can't eat but tiny bits at a time or I will feel like throwing up. I'm not anorexic anymore but I still have a hard time w/ my appetite. It's probably b/c of some of the meds I'm on. A typical day for me is waking up, having a cup of coffee for breakfast, usually don't eat lunch b/c I'm going between work and class, and when I get home I eat a small supper. Usually by the time I get home from work my head is killing me and my stomach aches. I know this sounds stupid but I just don't have an appetite....

I've detoxed over a weekend, where you only drink water mixed with lemon juice and cayenne pepper. It's pretty difficult, but it's supposed to be good for you. If you don't want your metabolism to get f*cked up that's what the cayenne pepper is for. It keeps you going.

I've done this before. ^_^ One day isn't an issue for me, I've done that....three days gets me cranky though. And yes, I do need to drink water during that time, but yeah....

Of course, I'm not the one you need to emulate as my metabolism is really sluggish anyway. The short of it is, I've been overweight to some degree since before I could walk, and it is likely hormonal, as I've also had low blood pressure and fairly low serum cholesterol levels all my life. (and being dirt poor and living on a ghetto budget doesn't help matters)

So yeah....going without food for a day is no biggie. I can go three days if I have water to drink (hint: going without water is *bad*, that can get you killed in days), but it really annoys the crap out of me to do it.

Hope this helps....take care and stay safe! ^_^ (of course now I'm going to have to actually go out and *get some food*, now that you have me thinking about it, *lol*)

It's called Fasting. Only drink water or tea. It will actually do your body good to get rid of impurities. I know people who have fasted for 5 days. I don't know if I could do it, but if I had something to motivate me, I guess I could.
