Why aren't Christians doing greater works than Jesus did, since he himself said they would (John 14:12)? The context is clearly referring to miracles.

I don't think he lied so much as he was deluded. Today we would say that he suffered from a Messianic complex.

It is clear from a number of bible verses that he thought that he and his followers could ask god to do anything and god would do it. It doesn't seem to work.

Of course he also told his followers that his second coming and triumph (according to the old messiah prophecies - reestablishing Israel and the throne of David, etc.) would occur before they had all died. That didn't happen either.

I assume since you said that Jesus said it, that you believe in Him, that's good because so do the demons. But if you will look and read and study the Bible you will see that the followers of Jesus in that day did do greater works (or at least as great as He did) and until today great works are being done, what you may not understand is that "True Christian DO NOT get on T.V. and announce and show off that they are doing miracles. Just as the Bible said that the right hand should not know what the left hand is doing, or that you should not stand and shout out your prayers just to be noticed. There are thousands of Miracles being done all over the world today that no-one will ever know about other than God all Mighty. It is all there to read in black and white. People have the wrong ideas about "True Christians", things are done in secret to glorify the name of Jesus.

Two reasons: A great many Christians don't believe miracles are for today...and we live in a very sceptical world where "miracles" are either discounted or debunked daily. Nowadays, people can "create" seemingly miraculous events with technology, smoke and mirrors.... and lest we forget photoshopped pictures...

so is it any wonder that people are somewhat doubtful including Jesus's alleged followers? When you think about it, technology itself is a miracle...why can't people stop being jaded long enough to see this?

Jesus didn't lie all those many years ago.

It's PEOPLE who choose not to believe when they do see things...or they ignore the "small" miracles that truly are great...such as the fact we wake up every day, babies are born each day, we have changes of seasons, etc.

Jesus did not lie and furthermore cannot lie. He is they embodiment of all Truth. Most of the so called christians today don't even know how to rightly divide the Word of God. Don't know How to read it with understanding and therfore are useless to God. Also do you understand what works mean. Many true christians such as apostle Paul did great works of miracles. But the main thing Paul did was to see that God's Word went forth. Don't ever call God a liar. You are asking for a heap of hurt to come your way if you do that.

You may be looking for the big miracles. Little miracles are happening all around us, every day. When one person helps another without looking for something in return, that's a miracle. Watch human interacton with an open mind and you will see someone open a door for someone else. You will see everyday people taking up a collection to help others who are in need. You will see someone comfort a stranger. The miracles are happening. We need to open our eyes to them and see them for what they are. We need to create our own miracles. Find ways to help each other instead of belittling others. Spread that feeling of help and hope instead of dwelling on the negative emotions. That's the miracle. All the little miracles add up to a much larger one. We all have to participate in our own way. Jesus didn't lie. He challenged us. Are we up to the challenge?

Who says they haven't for the past ~2000 years?

Jesus did his work for about 3 years. Christians have been doing his work for about 2000 years -- including documented miracles -- some of which are recorded in the book of Acts.

2000 is much greater than 3. I'd say Chritians have outperformed Jesus in that regard.

Maybe you don't see it in your own life, and it's unfortunate, but don't discount what's been done in the past 2 millenia.

I think miracles do happen today that are great. Some incredible great. It is just that the nature of the miracles are sacred and people hold them close to their hearts instead of spreading them around in the news because the world will not leave them alone until they can destroy the credibility of the miracles. Good Luck!

yeah, now it does seem like us christians has become a sit back christian in this respect (including myself), as much as I hate to say it..But Jesus did say we would do greater things than He after he was gone. But anymore it is hard to find these stirred up on fire christians, and thats what we all need to do is get all fired up for Jesus and start taking a stand for Him..Alot of the churches has done away with wed nights prayer meetings and they are just changing so much anymore..Which an't no excuse at all for us to become a sit back christain..There is so much we can all be doing but we don't..There are so many out there who are hurting and seeking and we should be there to help, but we don't..We all need to get back into what were here for and get fired up for Jesus once again...start a Bible study and prayer meeting in your home, invite the ones who you think would not want to join and if that the case God can put the desire to seek Him in this person heart...We just need to be willing to do something..Sorry about that, I do get carried away sometimes huh??? God Bless to all

Because you would be hard pressed to find a real christian anywhere! How many do you know that have given up all their worldly goods to follow the faith. Jesus stated that it would be easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. So if any Christians out there want saving then please feel free to send me their cash. I promise I will put it to good use but I doubt if I will get any takers!

Just the shadow of Peter passing over people was enough to heal them.

There have been a number of people (Roberts, Kolman, Allan, and more from around 1950) that have healed more people than Jesus.

Jesus was never reported as healing some one with an amputated limb, but that is happening today.

I submit that there are many that are indeed performing mighty miracles. What causes you to think otherwise. I have seen a single parent mother raise her children to become fine, upstanding citizens. all of them contributing to society. In this day and age, that is not easily done. I would say that is a mighty miracle.
