You have to be doing cardio for at least 20-30 min for it to even do anything. Less than that is just to make you feel like you actually tried to work out (to the other answer)
For your exact routine, thats probably a lil more than average but it depends on the heart rate while you are doing it. You have to hit the target heart rate the whole time. Also, is that your workout or do you then go do circuits? If that is your whole workout, then yes 1 hr is probably average.
I notice when I'm in the gym that the average person does around 45 minutes between treadmill, stairstepper, bikes, elliptical. Personally, I did around 20 min on stairstepper and elliptical each.
You are overdoing it only if you are pulling muscles and becoming really hurt. Or if you are losing weight faster than you want to. Underdoing it only if after a workout you don't feel anything. Then you need to bump up your routine.

so you're doing an hour of cardio each day? That's not overdoing it. Make sure to add in about 45 minutes of strength training, too, though.
I run for about an hour every other day, and do a class on the alternate ones. Every few weeks I change up the cardio equipment I use, so that my body doesn't get used to it and stop responding.

You don’t need to exercise for long periods of time. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results when you work hard. Get a passing up rope, skip for two units, do push ups for about a minute, skip for two minutes, rest first minute. Then change the push nearly something else like sit ups in addition to do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a rapid, effective workout that will get better results than a long function or swim.

Lads? Us girls use them too, i usually just stay on and do the cardio burn routine for 20min, we have a max 20min rule per machine during busy periods so i alternate, i wouldn't say your overdoing it but learn to listen to your body, when you feel you can't do anymore push that bit further, keep pushing until you 'really' know you've had enough and cool down.

I stay on for about 50 minutes, which includes the 5 minute cool down period. I try and burn at least 450 calories on the elliptical.

i would say thats really good, better than average, although it seems like your doing loads of cardio, do you do weights etc aswell? Sometimes if you vary your workout by doing some weights or machines after warm up before your cardio its more beneficial as you are maintaining and building your muscle mass, wheras too much cardio can actually reduce muscle mass. xxxxxxxxjust my advicexxxxxxx

Keep a food diary. Seeing every morsel of food you’ve eaten in an day written down can enable you to see where you’re overdoing this, or reveal patterns or triggers to bad diet plan.
