IMO seat belts are not as safe as they are advertised. Statistics show it only helps in a head on collision. Any other collision seat belts will not help you and in some will help kill you. It should be a decision made per individual. Making it law takes away your right to choose. I fully believe in the right to choose.

I always wear my seat belt, because I don't want to be thrown from the car in an accident. I don't know the exact statistics of the possibilities of a car accident where you would need to get out of the car immediately to survive, but my guess is that the possibility is not high.
I believe it's best for you to do a bit of research on the statistics and facts before making a decision that could possibly hurt your in the long run.
I found a website with some explanations of the myths, such as the one you mentioned that might get you started.
Although there are laws out there that we can probably do without, most of the laws are there for a reason, and the reason is to keep us safe.
I do hope you change your mind, and wear a seat belt at all times. :)

OK so just think. You and your friends are driving along on a nice summer day. Your friend is driving and you are in the back, directly behind him. Everyone is buckled up, but you. Suddenly a lorry serves in front and the car smashes directly into it. You will be launched from your seat right into the back of the drivers seat - instantly killing both you and your friend.
Seat belts DO save lives and by not wearing one, not only are you endangering your own life, but also others. It is selfish and irresponsible not to wear one.

Having been upside down in a vehicle with my seatbelt holding me in I can attest to the fact that you can release the belt and crawl out.
If you were willing to sign an absolute waiver that your medical care and the support for your family would NEVER depend upon public funds if you were injured while not wearing a belt AND if you could absolutely guarantee that you would IMMEDIATELY pay for any and all damages caused by your failure to wear a belt, I'll go along with your "choice" to be a fool and not wear one.

well there are pros and cons to seat belts I agree.
But think about it ,if you was in a crash and got thrown through the windshield or would you rather be upside down and have your seat belt on? They make devices that cut through the seat belt.I have seen so many crashes that if they would just have worn there seat belts they would have not been injured so badly or still be alive.I know that air bags also have pros and cons.I do say ALWAYS have a child in a seat belt or booster seat.I would rather not eat my windshield because of a careless driver.I have a brother in law who is still not all there because of a terrible accident,it was his fault but seat belts do save life's!

If you are not belted in, and the car lands upside down, you will fall and break your neck. Or be thrown out of the vehicle and killed. Or be thrown into into the windshielf. If you are belted in, chances are someone will come along and help you out. Seat belts save more lives then not.

In the state I live you you don't have to wear a seat belt, but you are choosing to be pulled over and given a $101 ticket every time you don't. If your afraid of getting trapped in a seat belt carry a sharp pocket knife so you can cut the strap. I dunno I think I like the option more then getting ejected from a car and then having it roll over on me.

You don't have a choice you have to wear seat belts. Most cars don't land up side down when they crash anyway. Just wear them. Unless you want a ticket.

i agree with you to a point. If people want to be stupid and not where seatbelts, they should have that right. Its the same for helmet laws. If you dont care if you die, then why should the law require you to wear one.
Seatbelts are there for a reason. to think that it would be safer if you dont wear them, because you might wind up in a lake is stupid. if your car flips one time, thats plenty of force to throw you through a windsheild.
Think about this one though.
The highest g-force a person has ever survived from was in a car. he went from 108-0mph in 26 inches.... 179gs.... he was wearing a seatbelt and broke every bone in his body twice, but he fully recovered.... so the seatbelt caused him to break every bone... i guess thats better then winding up dead.
