If she is bleeding, I would take her to the doc. I don't think that is normal.

You mean your 5 day old grandbaby is having a flow like menstrual blood? Yes, this can be normal. It has to do with shedding the hormones from when she was in mom's body. We're not talking about bright red blood, right? But more like a mucousy pink discharge? If it's bright red, then I would call the doc. Otherwise, sounds normal.

Menses????

Newborn baby girls do have little "mini periods". It's from the mother's hormones getting out of the baby's system.
It is normal.

Call your doctor or ask a nurse to be sure.
My daughter did that when she was a day old.

This is from mom's hormones that are still in the baby's system. Should be more of a bloody brownish discharge than any fresh red blood. It is normal as long as it is small amounts and as described above. If fresh red blood or large amounts she needs to contact pediatrician.

Neonatal (newborn) menses happens. It's not as common as something like baby acne, but fairly common. No need to worry.

Read up on it. Some newborn little girls do have a bit of of that right after birth, it is pretty normal and should clear up in a few days to a week.

I think if it is just slight bleeding then it is okay, sometimes a baby has the mothers hormones in him/her when born causing a slight period or sometimes you see babys with small breasts, it shouldnt last too long. If you are worried then talk to the midwife/doctor/health visitor or whoever is looking after her and your daughter. Please dont panic too much!

It's very normal for her to have it. It's from the mother. Some people should read baby books and not freak you out.
