I know at the dealership I work for the salespeople have to take a test and pass it of course to get their license to sell.

Yes. I read a series of articles at Edmunds.com titled Confessions of a Car Salesman, where a journalist goes undercover working as a sales guy at a couple of different dealerships.

In those articles he talks about going down to the DMV and getting a special dealer's license. It wasn't a big deal, but there is a license involved.

I'm not sure, but I would think it would be necessary. After all, you might be going on test drives with customers, or you might have to move vehicles around the lot.
