Well, you need to pick out your dress, pick the date, find the site(s) and then everything else will kind of fall into place.

I hear you! I am getting married in Nov 2008 and it can be very stressfull! I have to tell you that you have got to get planning NOW! Some places book two years in advance and if you don't want to spend a fourtune you need to start finding places to book. The average wedding in the US costs $27,000 and that is what the industry is geared twords. I don't know about you but I am not spending that much but that means a lot more work looking at more venues and being more conserned with the prices of things and doing a LOT more reasearch. The best thing I can tell you to do is go to a bookstore like Borders and get a bridal organizer. I was giveing one as an engagment gift and it has been the best thing I could have. It shows timelines and budget sheets and EVERYTHING you need to know to plan a wedding if you get the right one. Good Luck!

I may be prejudiced by my industry, but if you are really stumped, find a wedding planner. Lovegevity offers free wedding consultants. (Lovegevity is the parent company of WPI, a certification program for wedding professionals). Many of these consultants are recent graduates or senior members of the program. Some have been in business for many years, but are getting or renewing their certification.
A wedding consultant can sort through your ideas and bring them to life. They can also be your advocate on your wedding day. The last thing you want is to be worried about paying the DJ and the Officiant on your special day.
Another option is to locate a chapel that offers full service. They will sit down with you and work out many of the details of the day. them they will handle everything on the day of your wedding.
Hope this helps.

Either get a book at your local book store (this REALLY helped me) or you can find lists on-line (theknot.com is a good one). The best book I got (so you don't waste money) is the everything wedding book (the link to it on amazon is below). This book has everything that you could think of and more. It has timelines of when things should be done and how to do them. It has helped in SO many ways!

Caterer
Photographer
Flowers
Dresses
Bridal Accessories
Site rental
Minister
Alcohol permit
Music
Reception DJ
First step, pick an exact date. Second step, pick a place and find out what they charge and when they need their money.
Start with that, the rest will follow! Congratulations and good luck!

Pick up a Martha Stewart Living Weddings magazine...
inside of it is usually a planner/checklist that will get you thinking and planning and the rest of the magazine will inspire you and give you ideas.

there are tons of websites that can help you. check out theknot.com for starters.
my bridesmaids wore silver dresses and my flowers had a lot of blues and and purples in them. I was really happy with the way they turned out and we got a lot of compliments on them.

rent out a bed and breakfest for the weekend...they have wedding packages that include food, photo, minister, cake. They have nice garden weddings. I have seen packages for about $2,500 includes the room and you don't have to rush around. Its all done in one spot and when your done you can honeymoon there as well. Nice and sweet without rush rush wedding plans
