My uncle was trying to convert me to christiantiy by saying that the first humans (adam and eve) were christians.

But i told him that christianity is a new religion that it's only been around for 2000 (give or take) Years.
and that the story of adam and eve is of Jewish origins so adam and eve were most likely jewish.
Then i made a list of Religions that i Know to be older then christinaity (but i had to stop because i ran out of paper ^_^)

Has this ever happened to you???

Never happened to me. You are correct, that Christianity is new. How could Adam and Eve have been followers of Christ if He hadn't come yet?

God was with them, but Christ had not come yet, so Christianity didn't exist yet.

Bless you dearest, Welcome to the Family..... To become a christian is to make the most amazing step you will ever make in your life. I feel i can say this becauese as i was born and raised christian for 19 years. Your very brave and i ama so glad you are familiar with that passage in the bible you quoted about family, i'm glad you are still Christian. Prayer is important at this time. Also bible teachings. It can be hard to read the bible for help if its new to you. i have had some teaching and some self directed study. The new testament advises we study Psalms daily. When reading the bible you probably know but we have to deal with the fact that this little book will guide us through our whole lives. Quite simply we will read it over and over again, it is the christian journey. It is not a bore, i guarantee you, it is a buzz and a joy to find the ways that reading the bible enspires your mind, enlightenment, and reveals the answers to te problems in your life. The best guide to reading the bible is the bible its self. Read these a lot, these help me loads: i read Pslams daily, it is calming and i can really relate to it, plus it teaches how to pray and praise the Lord. (you will need to read Samuel to find out about King David, Gods chosen annonited Favourite who has Jesus numbered amongst his descendents). Read Proverbs: written by King Solomon, Son of King David, The wisest man that ever lived. Pages of wisdom and teaching. Isaiah: Jesus himself read from the book of Isaiah when he visited the Temple, Isaiah was a highly respected Prophet for the Jews, this confirmed the Jews as Gods special people and the old testament as still valid. Matthew i have been informed by an Atheist on here, believe there are some good hearted Atheists, she wrote Matthew makes for beautiful reading. Romans chapter 1 and 2 is essential and incredible reading... The rest of St Pauls Ministry is also key...... I have had such amazingly happy experiences at church, so christian so completely happy as a family hapiness. I belonged to an excellent group, an excellent church with excellent churches all around us. Not all churches everywhere of the same denomination are good unfortunately, i have learnt that. i live somewhere new now, but my experiences have been on the whole, Horrifying. And my church experiences have been mixed with some lovely people and some not. i am a southerner so i am hoping to move back down south before someone tries to convince me the popular saying in the 80's is not true... "its grim up north" was a popular one. Thankyou for that excellent compliment, where you compare the theme of christianity to your experience with Islam. May God Bless you, You pay Him a Massive Compliment.

It happens all the time. I always have people trying to tell me Christianity is the original religion. I laugh at them.

The oldest religions are the indigenous ones, because they are as old as the branches of humanity from which they sprung.

As Christianity as seen as a branch off of the Jewish religion, it is often dated back to the beginning of that faith. And the Jewish faith hold that Adam and Eve were the first to have a relationship with the Jewish God, so Judiasm can be dated back to them. So, assuming you accept the Bible as factual, it would be a valid arguement.

The name "Christian" was not attached to the faith until 2000 years ago. But the belief in Jehovah God, his (coming) Messiah, his commandments, etc. date back much further then the name. Even Adam and Eve knew about Jesus. Re-read Genesis 3:14,15 where God tells them and the devil that Jesus is coming to "bruise the devil's head".

I've experienced something similar, yea. I had to give up and avoid the topic after a while.

The problem is that this sort of person:
1) ignores the fact that their religion stemmed from Judaism, 2) believes that Judaism came after Christianity, or
3) is immune to logic, reason and facts due to sheer bull-headedness.

I remember talking to a co-worker of mine about religion and I mentioned that my sister is Pagan. He was astounded because he honestly thought that they stil sacrifice animals. Well, I don't think that he knew that Christians used to do that as well. So I printed up a bunch of websites for him about the religion. Not sure if he read them though.

We have the earliest proofs of stone age animism which are about ten thousand years old. Cave paintings, little fat female figurines...
We have sun temples (like newgrange, stonehenge, externsteine,..) which date in about 6000 bc.
That's 2000 years older than the supposed "age" of the entire creation, according to the bible.

"there are lots of older religions, but none better."

I disagree. Just because it's quiet now doesn't mean the past 1500 years of torturing and slaughtering non-believers is excusable.

Although technically not a religion, more of a philosophy, I'd say Bhuddism is the most peaceful religion. If everyone was Bhuddist I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Even most of the Jewish prophets knew of the comming Messiah (who Christians of course interpret to be Jesus).

The records of Adam are sparse at best, I don't think it's too out there for a Christian who believes Jesus was the promised messiah to believe that Adam was taught about Him.

Yes, I run out of paper all the time. Fortunately we have a 24 hour stationery shop on the corner.
