I am currently studying Italian. I've been learning on my own right now (saving money) for my trip to Venice. I will be taking advanced lessons in a classroom environment this summer. The problem is, I inquired about the course, and they do not teach slang. Being from the Northeast US, I know that slang is quite important. Does anyone know of any good computer programs, dvds, cds, etc. to learn this info? I've been looking and I have had no luck (except for mafia movies...lol).

good news nickie! the bbc has a website where you can download mp3 files that you can listen to on your mp3/ipod. where there is a section that is titled more advanced, click on 'cool italian'. it is as it says an audio slang guide. just follow the link below. and plus, it doesn't cost you a cent- or as i'd say in the uk a penny! also, try the following links below

I'm from Northeast US so I know it is important too!! But the best way to learn slang is when you go to Venice. Meet and talk to some Italians who will show you. And just listen. It is the best way.
Italy is a big place so it has prob regional slang. The slang in NY is different from Louisiana, right?!

Here is a good site for real Italian slang (not dialect or sms wording or youth sayings)http://italian.about.com/library/slang/blslangdictionaryindex.htm
Each alphabetic letter opens to you a lot of wordings.
Above answer link it's just a collection of dialectal forms that are ot fitting yr specific request.
P.S. In the above website there is also a section devoted to the slang for Adults...!http://italian.about.com/library/slang/bladultslangwarning.htm

Most slang usage in Italy would need to be confined to certain regions and dialects, however, you might find the link below useful as it covers most areas.

Try this site for Italian dialect, tho I believe that dialect is not something that you learn in a classroom. Just my opinion.

many people use dialects as slangs, but there are many and an italian basically only understand his own.
if you mean some popular expressions used by young people, go ask in answers italia..
but here are some things for using sms:
-tvb (ti voglio bene)= i love you(between frinds or relatives)
-tv1kdb(ti voglio un casino di bene)="un casino" means" a lot"
-k= che
-tt= tanto (a lot)
most of the time slang is just swear words
