Forever.
I smoked on an off in my teens for about six years. When I was 20 I started running and only smoked when I drank and was always very sorry for it on my next couple of runs after. Did that through my twenties, only smoked when I drank and only when I was around smokers, maybe 2 or 3 cigarettes a month - and just a 1/2 inch or so of the smoke when I did. Through most of my thirties I almost never drank, so smoked maybe one a year, just a few hits. Then at a party in my late thirties I drank a lot of wine, then brandy, then more wine, and when all the guys lit up cigars, so did I. I had a three day hangover and have not touched or wanted tobacco since, not even when I drink.

I'm battling that battle now. I have been using the step one patch. My problem is that I will get a pack then not smoke them all the while drinking the night before. Then have them right there whenever I wake up and thats how it starts.

You gotta hide the cigs somewhere where you can't get to them in the morning, or give them to someone to hold for you until you drink again.

Hmmm...

When I QUIT quit, for good...I was nervous about going out and drinking - that had always been my downfall before...

But, I was adamant (Adam Ant?)...determined that I was done smoking.

The first time I went out, was about a month after I quit. We closed a bar, and then went to a friends house until 7 am. The smell of everyone elses cigarettes disgusted me so bad, that even though I contemplated smoking one, the thought of it made me nauseous!

That was three years ago...not one cigarette since.

I quit 12/4/05 ... so for 1 year four months ... today's my anniversary quit date ... I've gave myself an additional 2 months of living .. and saved $1,500.00 (I just got a cheer leader e-mail telling me so) !!!

Okay, I used hypnosis to quit, and didn't social drink 4 the first 4 months. However, when I drink I find that I NEED a cigar ... the girly cigar's like vanilla, Kahlua, or cherry ... weird ... but since I don't inhale the sick cigar's I'm not craving tobacco the next day; rather, I'm green in the face going ... "Kill me ... kill me now" ... but still drinking & dancing sends me to the cig's.

One drink. If you've quit smoking, you should feel super strong. You're home free girl, don't try to find reasons to do it again.

Be brave

Quit 10 years ago. Never touched a cigarette since then. Don't want to tempt myself and don't want to do any more damage to myself.
