And why don't teachers properly supervise students? Some say, they are not babysitters. But aren't they (teachers & the principals) still responsible for the students while they are in school?

I think I should be more shocked about this article than I actually am. I feel so old saying this, but I agree. Kids have the upper hand nowadays. It is a much different , and unfortunately not better, world. Parents today do not hold their kids accountable for anything. In the cases you hear about in the news, parents hire lawyers and sue whoever they can when their child was doing something wrong. This teaches the child that it is okay to do something that is not acceptable.

To get back to this article, when I was in school, when a teacher was done teaching in a classroom, they would shut the lights, exit the classroom, and lock the door behind them. The next teacher had sets of keys to re-open for her/his class. I think anything that happens on school premises should make the school partly responsible. I mean, if these 2 underage kids had sex in your home, and the parents found out about it, nowadays, you would be facing legal issues. I think there are a few people who need to take accountability for this...first-the kids, second-the school & third-the parents.

I am appalled!!! I can't believe this!!
Okay, the fact that the kids were at school, I would hold the teacher accountable. The children should had never been left unsupervised. As for the parents, they need to teach their children about self respect. At this age, they should know right from wrong.

I believe it's a combination of things.

1) The Hippy parents that do not believe in disciplining their kids, letting them "learn" by experience.

2) Single parent households where the mom (or dad) is too tired and the kid gets away with everything.

3) Parents who think their kids can do no wrong and immediately side with the child whenever they get in trouble for something.

4) Power has been taken away from the teachers and school administration and the kids know this. Before, we used to get licks for fighting, etc. Nowadays, because of "new age" parents, schools are helpless to discipline they way they should.

So yes, kids are getting worse and I believe that most of the blame is on the parents.

I'm starting to think segregation of the sexes in school is a GREAT idea. Where were the teachers? My 9 year old doesn't even know what sex is, and he thinks girls are gross! And that's fine with me.

Yes, pretty much because there are not consequences. Oh you're grounded....who cares? That's not as effective as an a** whippin.....but hey you can't do that anymore.....so these are the consequences. Maybe when the government gets tired of their grandmothers being beaten up and robbed by youngsters they will rethink out-lawing spankings......

I blame the lawyers. It is a crime now to punish your kids. I say when they are bad they need discipline. Punish your child and now everything they do and where they go. the child will hate it but later will thank you.

This is wrong on so many levels I don't have enough fingers with which to point. Excuse me while I reach for parochial school brochures.
