Some years ago I travelled to New York for a weekend to buy a camera. Even with the cost of the flight it worked out cheaper than buying in England.

I purchased my Nikon F4S with loads of accessories from one of the many grey market shops in the city (these are parallel imports from Japan). I did find a slight problem with one of the camera lenses but this was replaced by the shop without hesitation even though I was obviously a foreigner and returning to the UK the following day.

Cameras generally are pretty robust and problem free so I would say go ahead. Ideally, if you have a friend or relation in the States buy it through them. That way they can deal on your behalf should any issues occur.

After many years my faithful F4S and all its accessories are in perfect working order.

No warranty. Also, in some contries (such as the UK), you can expect the postal service to charge an import tax.
If possible, have a friend or relative within the USA order the item(s), test them, and then forward them in an ordinary looking box.
