I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I've heard that praying and rellying on faith can be a big deal, but everytime I think of God I feel like I'm a complete sinner and filthy. I need help! Please! I'm 17 and my parents never take me to church, I don't know what to do.

Sweetie, I have OCD too. I think you need to just slow down first. You may be getting a little obsessive compulsive about your praying. And if you're anything like me, you don't need any "new ones" in your daily routine! I'm not telling you not to pray....only to calm down a bit and realize we're all sinners honey! Its part of being human! God forgives you and loves you. So it's okay. You're not filthy or dirty or anything else. Thats your condition (OCD) talking. You're gonna be okay love. Hang in there. Oh! And on a side note.....you do not HAVE to go to church to believe in and be part of God.

God does not see you as a sinner or filthy. You are LOVED. Please don't feel guilt. For me, it would be impossible to have faith if I thought I was being judged by God. Maybe that's why you are having trouble.

I know a little bit about OCD. I have a good friend with it - and he makes movies about it. I acted in one of them for him. If you go to:

http://www.ocdawareness.com/Spirituality

you can see what he says about Spirituality helping his OCD.

You don't have to go to church in order to be close to God - BUT if you really want to go - maybe another relative or friend can take you.

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this disorder. It's a tough one for sure. Hang in there. And as my friend Jim is forever saying... KEEP THE FAITH!!

If you are 17 you should be able to find a ride to church i am sure there are people in you school who will be more then willing to take you.

I would not solely try to use faith though to cure you OCD. Praying does not hurt but it is not a substitute for acutely doing something about a problem. Just praying and doing nothing yourself is lazy and god does not reward lazy. God helps those who help themselves.

So if you OCD is bad go see a shrink. If your parents will not take you there talk to you school councilor about it.

You may need a different outlook on your God and what he really is and means to you. Many people that feel less than have been taught to feel that way by someone. The God I know loves you regardless of your sins. Its the sins he doesn't like. I would say find a coach of sorts. Ask someone that you view as respectable in your community or in your life to make decisions for you for a while. And then follow their instruction. Eventually you will get used to when, and more importantly, HOW to pray and live.

You must get over the idea that you are handicapped, that you are worthless and dirty. God loves you. A major part of your recovery depends on your attitude toward yourself. Ignore what other people think---they are operating out of judgment and prejudice. Consider yourself as one of Gods beloved children. The major factor in recovery is accepting the healing. Believe that you are healed in the name of Jesus and it will happen. Don't fight with yourself. Hand everything over to God. DO NOT expect instance results because they usually do not occur. Progress is made a little at a time as God feels that you can handle it. Continue in faith---there is no substitute for it. Plead with your parents to take you to church. If it is a church where the minister can lay hands on you and pray, then this is important. Anyway, get consultation from the pastor of the church. The body of Christ is on your side. Jesus loves you.

Luke22:44 I have a(one major) obsessive compulsion. Others have more. One or many makes no difference. It or they, take control of our lives, and we do not have the freedom that we so desperately want. When I prayed about this, Luke is were I was led to. I cannot and will not say that it also applies to you. However when Jesus was in the garden and praying for this "cup" to pass from him( the horrific pain of crucifixion)(taking on all the sins of the world) his flesh cried out to the point of sweating blood(I asked of the medical profession, and they said, yes, it does happen, due to tremendous mental and physical pressure). Yet he overcame that, and stayed obedient to the Father, fullfilling the purpose for which he had been born. Anyways, the Bible goes on to say (I will let you find out where) "you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood". This does not mean blood has to be shed on your part, but that to resist, will prove that your love for God is stronger than your compulsion. I know this to be true for me, and only offer it to you as a possibility. In all honesty, I am still working mine out, and at this time, i am neither losing, nor unfortunately, gaining ground but I "press on" and will pray for the both of us right after submitting this response

Praying and Faith is all good. But God did say Faith without works is dead. You must check with your doctor and begin getting some professional advice. You don't need your parents at your age to go to church. You must start somewhere.

never feel like your filthy you are wonderfully and beautifully made, that is what God says we are all sinners and come short of the glory of God He loves you and knows everything about you all you need to do is ask Him to come into your life and tell Him how sorry you feel about sinning you dont need to tell everyone, talk to Him inside yourself(in the spirit)He is your friend and sticks closer to you than a brother having faith means you must trust Him when you ask Him let it go and He will take care of it you are being much to hard on yourself just turn things over to God and He will take care of it you have done no worse than any of us

Praying and meditating on/to GOD are both great things and do help, but you also need to go to the Doctor and be evaluated so you can see if you need meds.
If your parents will not take you to Church go on your own. I suggest you read the Gospel of John, it is a fount of knowledge and will help you.

First, you are NOT a "complete sinner and filthy". You are a unique, individual human being with wonderful things to contribute to the world. Don't EVER let anyone make you think otherwise.

Second, if you are interested in going to church, talk to your parents about it. They may be willing to go with you, or at least drop you off. Talk to them about it.

Third, a hobby may help give you a place to expend all that energy; a focus. Find something you are interested in and pursue that.

I'm sorry, but praying is not going to help you with this.
