If we closed all the VA hospitals and gave all military/veteran personnel a insurance card. They could visit any doctor, any hospital, and receive the same care as civilians. Would this improve their healthcare system? What are your thoughts?

NO!!!
Vets are a separate demographic.
I spent time in VA facilities.
Vets need services provided by VA.
Not Group Health.
A lot of Vets need services that the healthcare system at large cannot provide.

Privatization is NOT the answer to everything.
Except to predatory capitalists.

I believe that the problem comes from the fact that the US military has a certain amount of money to spend on treating injured and sick soldiers.

Like any other part of the military, some units get all the good equipment and others are left waiting for what they need.

The current focus in the military is on frontline medicine. This is very expensive but has a huge impact on the number of soldiers who survive being wounded in combat.

Unfortunately this leaves less for the back end of military health care.

The insurance card system won't work either. Veterans are often put on the wrong pensions or provided with inadequate benefits. So they may even end up worse with an insurance card.

On one hand, privatizing the VA in all probability won't strengthen the common that lots (slightly), because of fact firms do tend to cram great #'s of very ill sufferers in risky staffing ratios, which impacts care. even however, considering the fact which you could't sue the government now, incompetent group are not getting fired, that's one clarification why lots of vets do no longer project to *****. perhaps a non-earnings scientific institution, with mandated ratios (no extra desirable than 4 consistent with nurse), plus properly stocked aspects and 24 hour pharmacy (which lots of for-earnings hospitals nevertheless don't have).

Absolutely!

I then wouldn't have to travel 2 1/2 hours to go see my Rheumatologist or pay for emergency visits at private hospitals.

Has privatization ever benefited anyone except 'the chosen few' ???

Get real,,, since insurance is a for profit business, if we cant afford VA expenses, how in the hell would we ever be able to afford the privatized insurance.

Tell me one item that now costs you less because it was privatized/deregulated. Without exception privatization has ended up costing the consumer more.
