Yes! It is a myth that all celiacs are small. Malnourishment and the other problems from CD can cause weight gain, not just weight loss. If you do a search on Pubmed.gov there is a study that shows that the ratio of people with CD who are underweight to people with CD who are overweight is about the same as in the general populations. I believe, however, that CD tends to be diagnosed more in very underweight people because doctors still buy into the myth that CD = skinny and malnourished.

Symptoms may occur in the digestive system, or in other parts of the body. So being overweight does not mean you do not have this problem. And depending on what you call a little overweight, it still does not mean that you do not have malnutrition, or anemia. Many obese people have malnutrition problems and do not even know it!! Try a gluten-free diet and see if you stomach trouble goes away. If it does, you probably have celiac disease and should see a doctor. You should see a doctor anyway, but try the diet and see if it helps. There is information about it on the webpage listed below. Good Luck!

I had what I thought was celiac disease and it turned out to be a yeast allergy.

I would have throat constriction, acid reflux, a great deal of stomach distress.

Stopping wheat, stopped the yeast and when you do not eat wheat products, you eat very little butter. So I lost weight.

Try lemon juice in water to settle your stomach. I do not know why, but it works great for me. I think it seems illogical, but I will not argue with what works.

Once we women have our children it is incredibly hard to be thin again.
