NO, it is NOT true. Global Warming is a farce. It was created by left-wing liberals for political gain and as a scare tactic just like they did for Y2K over seven years ago. In fact, it is no longer called Global Warming, they have since changed it to "Climate Change Crisis" due to all of the record low temperatures the world has witnessed this past winter.

25 years ago liberals were claiming the earth was cooling and that we should take measures not to destroy any natural heating resources from the earth. That too was proven to be a farce.

Bottom line... Global Warming doesn't exist and the sky is NOT falling! Live life, enjoy it, and keep producing those gasses because the earth can handle it.

Global Warming is an extremely debated topic which many of the worlds scientists fail to agree on.

I certainly believe that the world is warming up and thats just from anecdotal evidence. The weather seems warmer in the UK and the spring seems to be appearing earlier and earlier. Flowers are blooming in January and animals are not hibernating for the winter like they used to.

There are several theories as to why the world is warming up at the rate it is doing so.

The main reason first produced and most widely accepted is that man-made carbon dioxide is causing heat to be trapped in the atmosphere and warming up the planet. Critics of this argument often cite that we have been producing Carbon Dioxide for the past two hundred years whilst temperatures have only been rising relatively recently.

An interesting study by the BBC Horizon team found that on September 11th 2001, when the airplanes were grounded across America that the temperature rose across America by several degrees. This has led to claims of Global Dimming, whereby the carbon dioxide we are currently producing is much cleaner than that we used to. This means that the problems of Global Warming are far worse than we first thought. The program is on the link below.

Another possibility is that the sun is getting warmer itself. Equally a possibility, I personally think its not good to think that what we are doing to this planet has nothing to do with it warming up and that it is a rather selfish attitude to life.

Ok......I totally disagree with Global Warming. It's a hoax! How do we know that the earth didnt heat up like this a 200-500 years ago. What about when the heat was so bad the dinosours went extinct. We didnt even exist then, so how on earth could we have done that?

Biggest issue is "Why are ice caps melting on Mars?" We (Humans) have nothing to do with that. Ohhh yeah........It's Easter and it sleated here in North Carolina and froze last night. It hasnt been this cold at Easter in about the last 50 years. So does Global Warming really exist?
I am not a rightwing nut job or anything. I am actually not with any party....but I do believe that this is left pull.
This is mearly my opinion. I respect all of yours.

Is global warming true? It depends.

Statistically, the metric called global temperature is just an average of data from a large number of weather stations around the globe. This is fine, statistically.

However, the earth is a non-equilibrium system. Think of the meaning of extensive and intensive properties. Extensive properties are proportional to the size of the system (mass, energy, etc) and thus are additive. Intensive properties are independent of system size (temp, pressure, etc) and thus are not additive. This makes averaging between all the weather stations a meaningless number with no true physical meaning.

As a side note: All of you that are students in environmental science should have access to all of the journals that exist, both in and out of your field. Do a little looking around and do not accept your professors words as truth.

Also, not everyone that disagrees with anthropogenic GW is in the pay of the oil companies. To suggest such things reduces ones credibility.

I'm skeptical of global warming myself. It is clear that atmospheric CO2 has increased over the past century, but it's not at all clear that this has caused global warming. It's a certainty that most if not all of the global warming alarmist claims are terribly exaggerated.

While temperatures have gone up by a degree in the past century, the vast majority of the increase happened prior to 1940. Since then, there really hasn't been any appreciable warming. Even now, temperatures are below what they were a thousand years ago, when the vikings colonized Greenland. (That period was called the "medieval climate optimum". It was followed by a cooling period called the "little ice age", which ended around 1880). Obviously, none of this is consistent with the theory of global warming being caused by man-made CO2 in the atmosphere.

It's not at all clear what causes the earth to go through warmer and colder periods. Many people believe it's caused by variations in the sun. If so, there's obviously precious little that we humans can do about it.

Is it possible the data doesn't indicate a true statement. If I had submitted a proof that had such bad data my teacher would of flunked me.
The environmentalist chose the green house gases .
CO2 is very bad because of the amount of fossil fuels we burn and we do burn a lot of fuel ,bur mother nature has a natural recycling system that no one takes into account . I find that the earths recycle system is pretty good eliminating all but a few parts per million ,I think that is better than I could be. Doesn't it fascinate u how tight our oxygen supply is . 20.9 % is the correct level for us to live but look how closet our tolerances are. 19.5 is our lower limits any amount below this and u will be unconscious. Even if NASA had designed it they would have shot for a plus and minus 10% minimum .
Then there is Methane and someone had to be dumb . Methane is a very light gas so it goes very high in out atmosphere ,now how did they measure the levels they publish . Totally impossible or again just bad math. Oh yes methane is very explosive . Where is the huge lake of methane in our upper atmosphere . I can not find it it is gone how does that affect our global warming.

So record low temperatures proves without a shadow of a doubt that global warming is a farce? Going by that ignorant logic the record high temperatures last summer proves without a shadow of a doubt that global warming does exist.

It's true.

There's a huge amount of scientific data showing it is.

Here's a very short summary:

Here's a very complete analysis:

Here's a good website with more data:

"climate science from climate scientists"

You can't decide about global warming by listening to words. You have to look at scientific data. The data says it's real.

Of course the scientists consider how CO2 is affected by natural processes in all this. Here's some good data about that:

There is a natural "carbon cycle" that recycles CO2. But it's a delicate balance and we're messing it up.

Look at this graph.

http://scrippsco2.ucsd.edu/graphics_gallery/mauna_loa_record/mlo_record.html

The little squiggles are nature doing its' thing. CO2 falls a bit during summer when plants are active, and rises during the winter. The huge increase is us, burning fossil fuels (in addition to the shape of the graph, the increase numerically matches the increase in fossil fuel use; an unlikely coincidence). The natural carbon cycle buried carbon in fossil fuels over a very long time, little bit by little bit. We dig them up and burn them, real fast. That's a problem.

Man is upsetting the balance of nature. We need to fix that.

global warming is absolutely real but the question is is it happening the way they are saying it to be happening. it's proven that the entire solar system is warming up, earth is not unique in this. so the question then becomes why is our solar system warming and what impact will this have on us.

we will really never know. but what is real is the problems we are creating: pollution, rapid urbanization, land conversion, over population and depletion of natural resources. if these problem really does cause global warming, then we really have a huge problem.
