If a white person calls a black person n****r in a derogitory way is this racism? And does the same apply for other racial differences (ie ginger hair).

What is modern racism in the west?

Are the MOBO awards a good thing. How would black communities feel about the MOWO awards?

Have you seen the film White Chicks. Do you find it offensive?

Do white westerners have to pay for the atrocities of their racist forefathers even though they are not racist?

Or am I just a whinging middle class white man?

Yes, sadly racism does exist.
We are all made of the same stuff

Racism exists. Though not as widespread as is once was. However, it exists everywhere it's not just white people being racist to everyone else. I have met plenty of black, and Hispanic people that are racist towards each other, white people, and even to others of their same race.

I don't think that people should use the N word, not even black people themselves. I don't think it is right for other ethnic groups to use ethnic slurs towards whites either, like honky or redneck. And I don't think that everyone should have to keep changing what they call other ethnic groups to appease them and be P.C. or your looked down on. So what if my 90 year old grandmother still calls them Negros instead of African Americans, that was what they were called in her day and it was not derogatory. I don't think we owe any reparations to any one for slavery. That's just the black whiners.

I think that everyone should be treated the same. There should be no MOBO awards if there can't be MOWO awards also, it should not be just one sided. I think everyone should just quit whining about racism and treat everyone the same, but minority groups shouldn't think they should get special considerations either because that is racist to the majority groups. In the US the combined minority numbers have increased so much with immigration that it won't be long before the combined minority groups are the majority. So I think it is time they quit asking for favoritism.

Isn't treating everyone the same what they say they want?

Another whining middle class white person.

Yes, racism exists. And yes, you're being a whining middle class white man. Nothing sounds more childish than suggesting something like MOWO. You sound a bit bitter. Stop worrying so much about the other races and focus on you.

White Chicks wasn't offensive. It was just a sucky movie.

And no reparations for slavery. That's just silliness. We did pay reparations to the Japanese Americans, and we should have. But reparations this long after slavery ended is just stupid.

Racism is defined by individuals. I might not feel offended when someone calls me cracker, but another person will.

There are many blacks that understand the double standard that occurs with racism, white people tend to bring it on themselves out of guilt, but it doesn't really matter as long as you treat individuals with respect. When I come upon a racist, black or white, I automatically assume they are unballanced and really don't listen to their opinions anyway, because they aren't based in logic, they are based in emotion. Just like religion.

All people are people, some are bad, but most are just trying to get by and are generally good.

Except for red heads, they are warlocks and witches, with strange powers and an evil eye.

Racism does exist and the point you raise is a good one. Every one seems to think it is a 'White issue' with people of other ethnic origins but those who shout and scream that a white person is racist will no doubt be racist back to a white person or another ethnic group. Racism Stems for the uncertainty of something being different be it colour of skin, hair or eye colour. really its a silly concept but its in every one.

This problem is in all countries and has been for centuries The first thing is don't follow that crowd of people who do so even in the shadows. Another is to ask them what is the reason they feel that way and where did they get that information. Tell them there are more good people in every nation than there are low life's. They don't have to hate a race, creed ,or color just the ones who are guilty of that action that caused your anger.

Wrong section. Yes it exists all over the world. Walk around in Beverly Hills with a black man and tell me how long it takes the cops to get there.

On the other hand I cannot stand being called a cracker by African Canadians. I come from a country that never had slavery, but in fact people lost their lives saving slaves from the US. So many times ignorant African Canadians will call white people in Canada crackers, or refer to their oppressed history, when in fact they are living in Canada due to the underground railroad.

I think that calling a person a n****r is a bad thing because black people find it offensive, not because the word is so bad. However, my mom is a giner, lol, and she gets offended when someone says something abouther hair. I have heard people call Asians names and whites names, and noone defends them. It is only the black people that get tp be protected from hurtful words.

I think that white people here have to make reparations for what people did in thelate 1800s. My anscestors were still in Germany until 1920....so why should i have to continuously appologize for what a select group of white eletists did in the past??

It is quite hard to leave one's victim status behind, it is a crutch that is always there as the last word.

In Milwaukee, where I live we have about 120 murders a year,
well over a hundred of those are committed by blacks.
Some people would call that a racist remark, even though it is true.

Racism is alive and well and takes on all sorts of guises. Skin color is a good one but there are worse like religious racism cultural racism economic racism sexual racism.. Historically starting with the famous "if you are not Greek you are a barbarian down to our times with all sorts of new forms of racism.
