It has happened many times before to saints of the Church. I know the authenticated cases of St. Francis of Assisi and Padre Pio. On the other hand, many have been found to be false so the Church has to be sure.
Peace and every blessing!

Who cares?
All the suffering had been carried by Jesus Himself. That was the expression of Jesus' love!
Jesus does not need any help or the cross-burden-sharing with any human being. Therefore the burden (stigmata) put onto Brother Elia is the work of Satan.
Poor Brother Elia; he had been deceived!

No I was interested to read the article. This is an interesting phenomenon. I would like to know more about the character of the man and how this gift came to him.
I find that God uses me more just as I am. Being me but more obedient and prayerful all the time. But I know there is room in God for many gifts and manifestations of the same Spirit.

Lets call up The Amazing Randi on this one.
Every time one of these gets investigated by a non-Catholic it turns out to be totally bogus.
