Ever heard the expression an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure?
Cats do occassionally have bacteria in their saliva that can cause cat scratch fever.
Tetanus boosters on the average of every 7 to 10 years should be a given. And are a really good idea. Tetanus is more than rusty nails.
I offer you a couple of really good links I've found on both cat bites/scratches and tetanus shots. Hope you find them helpful

Humans should keep tetanus shots current. For most people the shot should be updated every ten years. If your cats go outside you could conceivably get tetanus from a scratch. If you were to have a bite from any animal your doctor would give you a tetanus shot.

I have owned dozens of cats over the years and have never had a tetanus shot in my life.
Please do not even consider having a cat's claws removed - it is a cruel and painful operation which involves the amputation of part of the toe. Many European vets refuse to do it. Special nail clippers for cats are cheap and (depending on the cat) it is relatively easy to snip the sharp end off the claws, but don't cut too low.

I believe the recommendation is EVERYONE should get a tetanus shot every 10 yr or so. I doubt the cat increases risk since its deep puncture wounds that are the problem and a cat scratch isn't very deep. Now get your self with a stapler maybe.....

Not really
Only when they bite for real and they hit a vain.
If you play with yr cat and he scratches you hard, you can always wait for a few hours to see how the wound progresses.
But I have had many cats and never had a tetanus shot because I played with them

tetanus shots are more for rusty metal objects...like if you step on a nail...you can't get tetanus from a cat.
