By mountaineering, do you mean a long and arduous up-hill / down-hill walk with the occasional scramble? Just stash a camcorder in your backpack. Or get a small one that you can cram into a spare coat pocket. A light weight tripod would be nice, too. And if you're going to be gone for several days, bring enough film and batteries. Calculate how much you’ll need and bring twice as much.
If you mean mostly technical climbing, get a small point & shoot camera (with a video function) and keep it in a spare chalk bag for safe storage and easy access.
I'm into trad and sport climbing myself and on these routes there is very little time to film - you’re either climbing or belaying. You could film a bit when you’re both at a belay point or from the top of a route, but personally I prefer to enjoy those moments without a camera in front of my face. Also, my climbing does not improve with expensive gear in my backpack. When I’m climbing I want to focus on the climb. And when I want to take photographs of climbing, I like to focus on that... so I take my dSLR to a bouldering area. Or I rig something up where I'm on the wall with a nice vantage point but not actually involved in the climb I'm shooting.
