As far as I'm aware, DVD Shrink is a tool used for backing up DVDs. On a Mac, there are two key applications you can use depending on your desired output format. If you want to rip a DVD to a single MPEG-4, AVI file, then Handbrake would be the app to use. If on there other hand, you want to backup the entire DVD (including menus, special features, sub-titles etc) then MacTheRipper is the way forward.

As far as burning goes, Roxio Toast is the best software available but with a price tag of $79.99, it's also quite expensive. The great thing about Toast is that it can do all of the above (backing up DVDs) as well as compress and burn the contents to fit on a single 4.7GB blank DVD disc.

As far as free burning software goes, you can try an app called Burn, although I don't think it has compression capability.

All you need is a compression software.
Drop Stuff is really good.
Your Mac has the best built in software for burning DVDs/CDs from the factory already.

Click on the Blue Apple Icon and choose Mac OS X Software...

Search the site for: K3B

Faster, do a Google / Yahoo search for it.

there is not any stable thank you to burn a twin layer in spite of the OS. the only format for a twin layer this is continuously readable is to make a udf bridge image and burn that returned. What are you attempting to burn to dvd? The disk application that incorporates OSX will make and burn image records properly. it fairly is sluggish even if it works. I even have made backup copies of OSX from unique Apple discs and that they worked completely. The capture is you will possibly desire to make a picture record saved on your hd, then without mounting the image, burn it returned to disk as a picture record. in case you mount the image it alters it.
