Nervous breakdowns are just temporary and tend to go away within a couple of hours or a day to two tops. Here is something else you need to consider. Your husband could have depression. Males do not act the same as females when suffering from depression. As a matter of fact, you may not even see a difference at all since men typically hide they're emotions. Consider this and do a little research to see if it is anxiety or depression. Maybe it could even be both.

Also, I can tell you that I was once in a position similar to your husband's. I would grind my teeth in my sleep, have bad dreams about being pulled away from my family, never felt like doing anything, and generally hated life. So I left my job, found a new one, and now am far more happy.

So here is the deal. See if your husband can change jobs. If not, seek the services of a mental health professional. Your husband's condition will only get worse if not. Eventually he will view his job as something he must do, fall into a heavy depression, and well you may loose him.

Best of luck.

There is a difference between anxiety and a breakdown. I have panic attacks and depression, it sounds like your hubby has the same. Its a terrible feeling, lots of us know. He needs to see his GP asap, for medication, that will not work straight away, but after a few weeks will see some improvement. He needs to talk to someone at work to see if there is some sort of advice he can get. There is a fabulous web site, www.nomorepanic.com There are many people on this forum who suffer the same. Its my life line at times, the sdvice is spot on, as we all been there.

Sorry to hear this Judy - I think he really must go to the doctor asap to get some help - even if it is just some medication to tide him over the difficult patch. I have suffered from work induced anxiety in the past, and the pills prescribed by my GP ( which I only needed to take for a few weeks) helped a lot. Once he has got himself back on an even keel he can take a calm look at his job and take balanced decisions on how to improve things. Good luck to you both.

Your husband needs to see a doctor for a thorough exam as soon as possible. General mood symptoms can be caused by serious physical illness, as well as depressioon and other mental disorders. At least you have to rule out physical causes first before they will treat anything else. Once the doctor has ruled out physical causes, they may be able to treat him for depression or anxiety disorder or they may need to refer him to a specialist. There is no specific definition for a "nervous breakdown". It just means that a person's disorder, whatever it is, has become so serious that they are unable to function by themselves. Please make him see a doctor immediately.

he could just be experiencing anxiety disorder. Men tend to get anxiety at a later age than women. In order to help him you should stand by his side and tell him that you are there for him. He should make an apt with his doctor and get a re feral to see a psych. I know that it is hard right now but with time and therapy he will get back to normal.

Is he on the drugs lately? Check out! Can be as well a depression sign, buy a plain ticket and go elsewhere. He needs a break. Brittan is depressing. Try that. Good luck.

Sounds like it. If the job is stressing him out he needs to start searching for a new one before he goes over the edge.

You must get him to see a doctor. Sounds like he could be a bit depressed but only the professionals would really know.
