psychotherapy could be an institutionalized solution,
the question is are you going to search the cause of it,or to avert attention on the things outside...
of course, you have to be critical about therapy results

I suggest some alternatives which I used long ago:
- Take tyrosine (a component of amino). It helps to boost your energy level and therefore motivate you.
- Take vitamin B & C to fuel your brain and combat stress.
- Get plenty of sun.
- Get plenty of exercise to sweat it out and pump oxygen into your brain. If you jog, run as fast as you can until you are out of breath before you stop.
- Analyze your diet. Not enough water or too much acid.
- Meditate by focusing your thoughts on your breathing. Meditate will strengthen your mind.
- Pray a lot. Have faith in the religion of your choice. Believing that someone powerful is willing to help you, strengthen your belief you will recover.
- Use auto suggestion first and last thing in the day : "Everyday in every way, I am getting better and better." Repeat the sentence any time your are free like traveling or waiting. Record and play it to yourself. Say it with positive feeling.
- Don't take anti-depression pills because the pills makes you sleepy but it does not help.
Try yoga with relaxing music in the morning and night. Your body is linked to your mind. Once your body feel great, our mind will improve.

Practice for 15 -20 minutes daily, and when needed the mindfulness breathing method at http://www.dbtselfhelp.com or http://www.selfhelpmagazine.com Meditation room; try it out; mantra meditation; repeat the word: "easy", or gaze at a burning candle in a quiet, darkened room for 20 mins. Morning, afternoon, and evening is best. Try them all. You will gain early confidence from the one you like most, but you should eventually gain the most from the one you like least! With experience, the candle gazing (or a crystal, or an egg, or a mandala) can be combined with the others, but not until proficiency with each method is gained. Exercise vigorously, working your way up slowly to 30 - 60 mins daily, eat a serve of green and one of yellow/orange vegetable (half a 250 ml cup, or 2 heaped tablespoons is a serve), one of beans and/or peas, lentils, peanuts (ground nuts, or chick peas. Rice or bread, fish or eggs, dairy products, and 3 of fruit. Keep occupied. Tai Chi & yoga suit some (http://www.yogasite.com)

Good question. I hate pills and chemicals. I am afraid it is going to harm me in a long run like kidney and liver. I started to see a holistic Natural medicine practitioner. She does acupuncture, massage therapy and herb. But you have to be sure she / he is Chinese, or some one studied in China extensively, not some one just went some kind of vocational school for 9 month~! Also, try to find NAET therapy. Yoga for anxiety and depression (there are certain pose you can practice for this specific problem). Do regular exercise and proper nutrition especially B-12. I wish you the best of luck.

There is no cure so we look at depression in terms of treatment options. That's not to say that you can't overcome depression, it just means that if we had a "cure" no one would suffer from it anymore.
So... If you're into meditation, get some books on Buddhism at the library, ditto for aromatherapy (sounds cheesy but it can help), ditto for yoga. Maybe consider seeing a naturopathic.

meditation sounds like a good plan.
Planning is the best way to overcome depression; if you have a plan in place for every day, you can occupy your thoughts away from your mood.
Keep yourself busy, have a routine for every day, and stick to it.
Good luck - this is how I managed to overcome depression last year - a combination of yoga, exercise, healthy eating and socialising with friends (even if I didn't feel like it - though I felt really good about myself afterwards) The more you do for yourself, the better you feel about yourself.
Also cut out alcohol (or limit it greatly if you dont want to cut it out completely), and look after your diet.

Products from this site while expensive have helped my partner deal with depression. They produce meditation CDs which place your brain in various brain wave states. Very very complex, the site explains it better.
Also try St Johns Wort, a herb that helps with depression and anxiety. My partner finds it helps very much.
