For a tooth extraction? My tylenol 3 are halfway done. But I still have penicilin left 2 finish up. Once my t3 is done, can I take the ibuprofen, in case I get pain? Will it help with the pain? Thanks.

if the ibuprofen works for you then i would say stick with it (but PLEASE remember that max dosage for a 24 hour period is 1200mg)

tylenol 3 is acetaminophen with 3 grains of codeine (a narcotic) so they are much stronger than the over the counter ibuprofen.

ibuprofen is better than tylenol in my opinion b/c it has an anti-inflammatory in it to also reduce swelling.

if you are finding that the ibuprofen is not helping with the pain-then i would call your dentist back and see about getting something a little stronger.

good luck to you and hope you feel better!!

Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen with 3 grains of codeine) is NOT the same thing as ibuprofen, as mentioned above, it is is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAD) with an admixture of codeine, which is methylmorphine (i.e., derived from morphine through the process of O-methylation)- an opiate used for its analgesic, antitussive and antidiarrheal properties..

What you can actually do is mix regular Tylenol (1-2 tablets) with Ibuprofen (also 1-2 tablets)... this is not common household practice but one many MD's use when self treating for injuries and pains. The drugs work in very different ways and as such will not cause an overdose or side effects. But do ask you dentist before you try this--- many may not realize it though.

Tylenol 3 and Ibuprofen are not the same thing Tylenol 3 is acetaminophen with codeine ,a narcotic for pain. Ibuprofen is the generic for both Advil and Motrin which are classified as Nosteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs used for pain and swelling. So yes the ibuprofen with help with the pain. Always take your meds as your doctor and pharmacist have instructed you. Failure to do so could result in serious situations.

Tylenol 3 is not ibuprofen it's aciteminophen w/ 3 grains of codeine. That being said ibuprofen should work fine if you need it at all since it is both a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory.

Tylenol 3 is Codeine mixed with Tylenol which is different from Ibuprofen.

I would recommend getting in touch with your dentist to see what they suggest for this.

T3 is ibuprofen, not sure how many mg for t3, but you can take 800 mg ibuprofen for a while to relieve the pain, try not to stay taking them for longer than you need it. It is terriblely hard on your built in filters (Liver & Kidneys). The answer is yes and yes.
