Why pick faith in silly stories as opposed to scientific evidence. Imagine that in a court of law ignoring evidence...

This makes no sense.

Why believe in the likes of magic, gods, fairies, santa claus

Whn you have things like geology showing how old the earh is.

When you have a history of things like the inquistion why use a withch burner or stone people to death cult that is unfair, sexist and homophobic as your source of morality?

That makes no sense either.

What really makes no sense is how feamles can support a system that treats them different and puts males in poer over them

You have things like virgin births happening all the time. Several in the teen section here on a regular basis.

Most stories of herosn and villans are altered as are biolgraphies so surely the pre scinece claims in relgious books should be seen the same.

Things like the parting of the red seas sounds much like a tidal wave and there were indications in the bible of volcanic activitiy like pillers of fire.

People often took days to die on crosses so easy enough to drug somone and get them down with a superficail wound.

And as for sins what do you call terrorisim, inqisitions, child abusing kids homes, spreading aids everywghere by lying about condoms having holes and being against god, stoning single people to death.

And what did gays do to anyone?

which is more likly?

advnanced aliens with knowledge gave the info bit like us educating some jungle tribe.

early scientists come up with ideas based on past science (think the romans were pretty advanced as were egyptions) which are later confirmed... (happens all the time like Leanodo da vinchi invented the helicopter idea)

I think being rational doesn't come easily to people. We know it's the only route to truth but it's easier to be superstitious. Thinking things through, examining your own ideas, seeing whether they stand up to reason - that's all hard work. Intellectual integrity is hard work.

It has long been recognised that it is possible to influence the mind of Man; either through drugs, or superstition, where divine retribution will be visited upon the non-believer. Most tribal societies, have had some kind of faith in powers beyond their "ken". The mosr recent, and far reaching example is the conversion of the Roman Emperors from Idolatry to the Christian faith, where all decisions could be referred to an "Almighty" being, that existed somewhere outside Earth, and not accountable to them - the Emperors. This was a very skilful move and absolved them from all blame for all events - forever. (It is God's Will)
In the centuries that followed that followed, missionaries carried the Christian faith all over the world and subdued most of it - on many occasions with violence - in the name of God. It is often forgotten - sometimes quite delberately - that most of the world was illiterate, and very superstitious; and therefore easily persuaded towards the new faith.
Nowadays, with obvious - and violent - exceptions, the literate
world is believing more and more in the hard provable facts of modern science, and beginning to doubt the old teachings.

Science also cannot explain everything! but from your questions, it looks like you are just trying to irritate. There are many things that cannot be proven by scientific evidences but it doesn't mean that they are not real or doesn't exist. Suggest you read books by Josh Mcdowell "Evidences that demands a verdict volume 1 and 2"and Lee Strobel's "A Case for Faith" and "A case for Christ" and then, search hard for the truth yourself objectively and openly and you will find that what you call silly stories and fairy tales are more believable than some of your scientific facts!

What makes no sense to me is why you ask questions when it's clear that you have no clue as to what my faith is truly about or based on. My faith is certainly not founded on "silly stories", magic, or fairytales. And, by no means, am I a mindless drone who believes in something without investigation and evidence. I value logic and critical thinking, and you know what? So does God!

Let me assure you, there is ample evidence to support the Bible and its claims. God's word has already been put on trial numerous times throughout history. For centuries, God's word has stood the test of time and defended itself against numerous accusations. So, I think the verdict is clear. What other "book of fairytales" can you say that about?

well for me and most of who follow my religion ..all those scientific theories about the earth life death birth sun stars sea geology ..........are written in the quran and its probably up to man to prove them in a scientific way and give evidence.....thats why there is FAITH in a religion as time passes and as science becomes more advanced the more and more theories are proved that were only written in the quran and have not been proven scientifically...i guess thats the difference between having faith in something and just wanting it in facts right away..... as for women who support a religion that men have power over them....wrong again...thats not the religion READ about it ..it might make sense...but yes some cultures treat woman differently...just like some people treat blacks differently or treat handicapped people differently or blind people differently it has nothing to do with religion!!!

Geologists have no idea how old the earth is, it's their best guess. Every form of dating including Carbon 14, and radiometric dating has serious problems, such as that they are an open system (allowing entrophy) and the rate of decay in Carbon, or in radiometric dating, the loss or gain in the parent or daughter elements, Any rock that does not date correctly by the scientists is considered contaminated and thrown out
I don't believe in Fairies or Santa Claus, I do not subscribe to things in history such as the inqusition. Using religion for torture or war, is no more excusable than doing it for political power, greed,etc..etc.. My belief in God in no way places women second, and I did not like homosexuality BEFORE I came to believe in God. I don't discriminate against them, I don't in any way harrass or belittle them in public. But I do not personally agree with it. Sorry if that offends
Now you say ignoring evidence, such as used in a court of law. If the evidence is used in a court of law, it is a proven fact the the Old Testament is archeologically accurate, historically accurate, and most of the events in it have been cooberrated by science as far as the archeologiacl evidence. The fact that Jesus existed is not disputed by any real historian that I have ever heard of, religious or secular, and the evidence of his existance is overwhelming. The only thing that can be disputed at all is if he is, or is not, the Son of God. Even some of his miracles were recorded by secular writers.
How can you ignore such overwheleming historical evidence?

well I'm sitting here thinking your must have a boring existence. if you feel strongly about all this. when you tell your friends about something your did the other day you must truly stick to the whole truth and no exaggerating. I think your not thinking about how a story of an event comes about. 1 tells 1 and so on. usually the stories get bigger by each telling. as for the system who chooses to put these males in power. although Margaret Thatcher comes to mind. On the whole we need fantasy as much a reality in our lives . a good mixture or we'd all be boring and fun less

Do you remember when you were little and you'd ask a question like, what makes the kettle boil or something and your mum would make up a story about angels or fairies or little gnomes that are controlling the whole world and everything in it? (My mum used to tell me it's a little old man sitting in a rocking chair by the fire who'd make the kettle boil!)
It's sort of like that, we feel comforted in the belief of God or Allah, or call it what you like, we like knowing that whenever we fall our God will catch us, and that no matter what happens in life it can always get better because God is with us.
I don't care about scientific 'theories', often they aren't even proven they are just what is expected or what would 'in theory' happen. And you can't trust science to help you when you're down can you?

People in court aren't made to swear on a bible. They can choose to if they want to. I was recently on a jury - eight out of 12 jurors chose to "affirm" rather than swear on a bible. Good thing too.

To answer the question: people seek easy, quick answers. Science is hard, but religion has the answer to everything: "God did it." You don't need to think, or study, or puzzle things out.

welcome to the weird and wonderful world of yahoo answers - where the religious fanatic, argue with the christian zealot and the athiest gets upset daily!! Nothing makes sense when it comes to religion.

So many are oblivious to other points of view, so many are intolerant of other belief systems and faiths, so many are ignorant to the true meaning of religious texts and books, so many are closed minded and will not accept - that in this issue of religion there will never be an agreement or an answer.
