I can think of one instance when you should avoid soy bean and soy products and that is if you have any problems with your thyroid gland as the phytooestrogens in soya are thought to have a suppression effect on thyroid function. Otherwise soya is a good source of protein. Just opt for non-GM.

It can interact with your thyroid, I had trouble loosing weight when I consumed a lot of it. These days I have it in moderation. There are ongoing debates for the pros and cons of soy. Do some research on the net.
