3 times this month they have banged on my door. I had told them each time that I wasn't interested and they still tried to push their flyer in my face. I told the lady if I wanted religion, I would go to church. then I politely slammed the door again in their face, for the third time this month. Why are they so pushy?

No religions should be allowed to go bothering people in their own homes, peddling their religion and trying to recruit. They should be prosecuted for harassment and trespassing.

BEWARE OF DOG
Alsoconsider a small intercom at the door(not to low so kids can access it) and have one or two receivers in yr house in strategic places. You can get cheap wired ones at Radio Shack type stores etc
You can have it as a doorbell and have the button on it available for them to push as a doorbell then speak OR have it above the door frame higher up (no button to push or tape it over the button to allow no access...just use it as a monitor when you hear someone knock etc you can speak to them thru it and you can hear them answer.Tell them No go away etc at that point. No getting up, no opening door no face to face contact to encourage them.

I hate it. In the beginning, I tried to be polite but now it happens so frequently that it is getting harder and harder. Based on my experiences, I have come up with some rules I would like Jehovah's Witnesses to respect.

1) You are coming on my property. It is just that; MY property. If I ask you to leave, please do so.

2) I have my own beliefs, if I tell you that, please respect that. Thanks to the internet, if I want to know about your faith I can do a search and find out all I need. I also know where Kingdom Hall is located in my city so if I need more or clearer answers I will come to you.

3) Please don't leave literature on my porch when I am not home. With all of the other flyers, ads, etc that people post it makes my porch a cluttered mess. Also, when it is windy it blows on my lawn and I have to clean it up.

4) Just because there is a car in the driveway, don't keep ringing the doorbell or pounding on the door. Maybe I'm having a bad day and don't want to deal with people. I could be in the shower or sleeping (I work nights, so I sleep during the day). I might also be on the phone.

5) In accordance with number 4, don't try to peek in the windows. That kind of gives me the creeps.

6) The weekends are a really bad time for you to stop by. Because of mine and my wife's crazy work schedules, we kind of consider Saturday and Sunday to be family time to talk, watch movies, etc. We would like not to be bothered.

7) 6 PM any night is not a good time to come by. We are usually eating supper.

8) If you want respect, please observe these rules. I may not agree with your beliefs but observing them will guarantee that I and my family will show you the respect that any human being deserves. Thanks in advance.

Well you made the mistake of opening the door for them in the first place so maybe this won't work, but what I do is look out the door peep hole, and if I see them there I go about my business and ignore them. Sooner or later they will get tired and go away. They have "souls to save" they aren't going to spend their day on my door step.

Don't have a door peep hole? Put one in. Each time you open that door and talk to them, you are encouraging them to come back.

BTW in the airport they use to give out flowers (actually just a way to mark who they have talked to). So once I caught on I would take the flower, not give them any money for their books (what they really wanted), walk away. Throw flower away, then walk by another group of them, repeat a few times.
Great fun until they figured it out. For some reason after that whenever I walked near them, they moved on, QUICKLY!

They actually think they are trying to help you.

Even though they can be annoying they mean well.

Try this.

Next time have some literature of your own handy (doesn't matter what it is) and tell them you will trade with them if they won't accept it tell them they have been brainwashed and close the door. They will most likely stop coming to your door. Or just watch for them and don't answer the door.

Or ask them why they are passing out the watchtower when the organization has been dead wrong numerous times with its offbeat predictions.

Really, everyone who respects and obeys Jesus Christ goes from door to door to teach his neighbors about the Bible's good news. It is interesting that only Jehovah's Witnesses are so clearly identified with the preaching work; globally more than 6 million preach publicly each month.

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.

(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.

(Acts 20:20) I did not hold back ...from teaching you publicly and from house to house

It's sad when someone who claims to respect the bible actually insults or even advocates attacking a peaceful preacher. Sad but completely expected.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?

(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

they are required by their religious leadership to go door to door so many hours/week.

They don't usually come to my door, but this past Saturday morning the door bell rang & since I wasn't expecting anyone, I went to the intercom & asked 'who is it?'--the woman answered "(her name) Jehovah's witness" & I just said "I'm not interested, thanks" & she/they left. I didn't open the door B/C I was in my nightgown. They didn't leave anything on my door, no Watch Tower or anything.

i think they feel what they believe is the truth, and wish to spread that truth. when i am visited by a jehovah witness, i find what they have to say interesting and listen to their view however i also make clear that i am a muslim and share my views also. i think you should listen to what they have to say and then represent your view instead of slamming the door in their face.

Remember that they are doing this to earn their salvation. Tell them that they are false prophets and God has commanded you in the book of Deuteronomy 13 and 18 not to listen to them.
If that doesn't work, then ask them about pyramids -are they of God? (They aren't) Then why does Pastor Russell have a pyramid on his grave?

Because lives are at stake and we don't want to see anyone perish if there is a chance to save them. God does not desire for anyone to die either, that is why we are commissioned to go forth and preach the good news of God's kingdom and of his Christ. We do it out of love for God and our neighbor.

Freedom of religion should also mean freedom from religion for those who do not want it.

I do not know what country you are from but if they have pestered you and not taken "no thank you" for an answer you may have recourse in law. In the UK it could be seen as harassment which is a criminal offence.
