I do not like the bible, quite frankly- but then again, Im agnostic, so that's sort of irrelevant.

I have a Christian friend who shares my sentiment, but still asserts that she beileves in God & jesus whole heartedly. Now, other Christians I know look down on her because she is supposedly going against God's will by her decision to disregard the bibe.

Now, the bible was written by humans, and not even all of the gospels and books were included, so that would make it biased, would it not.

I personally dont think it's fair that she has to believe in the bible to believe in god. Shouldn't her faith be enough on it's own?

Yes, I believe the bible is just as much a result of politics as it is of God. However her religion must still be based on what she's read in the bible, otherwise where would she have gotten it from? She must believe in at least some of the bible I would think. Actually I am kind of in the same boat as her.

There is one simple answer to this question. The bible is the handbook for christians.

It is like asking the question, do you need to read the manual while driving your car? Answer NO of course not. This is the point that most people get hung up on.

They think that they are being a good christian if they read the bible and keep a copy handy at all times. Anybody else find that strange?!? Just like driving the car, you don't need to read the manual if you know what is in it.

That being said however if you don't read the manual for a long time and forget some of the things in it you can cause damage to your car. It is just the same as with the bible, you can do without it for a long time but then as we all do you will forget something in it and then you get into trouble. This is the reason why it is advisable to keep it around.

Use it for what it was intended a reference, a tool for learning, a way to understand that which you don't yet comprehend.

Hope this helps.

Frankly, I can't see how you can part the two. If she is a christian she should start praying to God to reveal to her what it is she is missing. In the first place, how did she find out about God and Jesus? How can you believe the part of the bible that says he was born and reject the rest. There are lots of things I find hard to understand in it at the moment but initially I pray for higher understanding of it. Sometimes the understanding comes and sometimes I have to wait for it. God sets a time for it.Rejecting the bible would mean for me rejecting Jesus altogether. How can you have the one without the other with Jesus being the Word .

The basis in believing God is the bible and if don't believe the bible but believe God, what is your basis believing God. How can you be a Christian if you do not believe the bible.

You do not believe the scripture (bible) which you said written by human as a book, a mere book but you believe on some books written by humans also? Human writer? And who are writing books, are they not humans? What is the logic in your kind of argument..

The Scripture (bible) is the book of the Gospels which were written by human through the words of God to know his existence and to know everything about God as He wish and there are many secrets of God which were not written and revealed by God himself because that is within his discretion.

What can you get of your being agnostic, anyway? And because of your being agnostic, your contention is irrelevant to Christianity

Ignorance is a kind of sin as sin is a kind of ignorance.

Satan believes in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Look where he and his legion are....

Mere belief is not the same thing as having Faith.

By disregarding the Bible, your friend is rejecting the Word of God. Ignorance, or rejection, of Scripture is ignorance, or rejection, of Christ. Not a good thing.

There have been many texts written down. Their existance does not serve as evidence they belong in the Bible. While all of those texts were written by human hands, only a small portion of them were Inspired by God. It is those Inspired Texts that made it into the Bible. This is not to say the other texts are not worth reading. Go to any Catholic bookstore and you will find all the apocryphal texts you wish to read.

I said before, belief is not the same thing as Faith. Even Satan believes in God but he certainly is not holy. So what's the deal? The deal is Faith; getting to know God. Reading the Scriptures is how one gets to know God. Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of God.

If your friend does not get to know God - by reading Scripture - she will not come to fully understand what it is she has faith in.

I am sorry to see that you are encouraging your friend to believe the road to God's glory is an easy one. It's not.

Well, since being a Christian means to follow the teachings of Jesus, and those teachings are written in the Bible, I would have to say no.

The Bible is the source of Christian guidelines.

I suppose you could consider yourself to be a football player without following the rules of football, but then you'd be playing a different game.

Hopefully that makes sense to you

One cannot be a complete and victorious Christian without living his life based on God's word as the following Scripture testifies: 2 Tim 3:16,17 All Scriptures is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God the Holy Spirit dictated the Bible to men. It is God's word. The Protestants later mistakenly took some books out, but they've put them back in now (in the back). Catholics still have all the books since they compiled the bible originally. All the revealed word of God is included; nothing has been left out. Christians need both scripture and tradition; you must have both. How can you believe in God and not his sacred word?

I would say that if you really are a Christian, you will not only believe in the Bible but you will live it! The Bible is the Word of God for humankind and it is impossible to live a Christian life without the bible, that's like drinking a Milkshake without Milk.

you might have self assurance what you like. whether: a million) Jesus isn't a witch, he's God's son. 2) The Bible is the know God. confident, that is been translated, yet all an identical message is throughout the time of each translation. he's amazingly particular on a thank you to stick to - the only thank you to him is in the process the Son.
