Any pressure on the tooth I had worked on is very uncomfortable. This is a retreat on my tooth, the dentist who originally did it missed a root (the jerk), and I had to have the procedure redone. I go in next week to have it finished, I'm just really nervous there is something wrong with my tooth, I can't afford any more procedures. Thanks for any advice.

The dentist who originally did the procedure gave me a refund for what she charged me. Of course that doesn't help with the additional 400 I have to pay to the specialist, in addition to what she gave back, plus about 150 in antibiotics. This is in response to the first answer, if anyone is wondering why I am writing this. Also, I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I just don't understand why a tooth that has no root is hurting.

It is very normal to feel pain after root canal. When they do a root canal, they take the nerves out not the roots. The roots stay where they are.Inside the roots are canals.Inside the canals are the nerves. The nerves give life, blood supply and a feeling to your teeth. When the cavity or infection riches them, that is when you start having toothache.Sometimes they are hiding behind each other and it is hard to see them on the x-ray.Therefor,i would recommend to see the specialist from the beginning,to make sure it's done properly. If they miss a nerve, yes you'll have pain.Everything has to be cleaned out.You have pain, because your tooth is not finished.Even when it is finished, you will have pain for some time.It needs time to heal.

Your tooth will hurt for a little while because of the work that was done. Right now your tooth is 'angry'. In a few days the pain should go away. Read some of the answers I answered today regarding my experience, and if you have any of the symptoms I've had, contact your dentist immediately.

People have different levels of reactions to pain.

I had a root canal and all four wisdom teeth removed on the same day.

I went to a club that night.

If you are having discomfort... deal with it. No one can tell you what "normal" is when it comes to pain.

If you feel bad today, treat it and wait to feel better.

See you at the club, boo.

ALLISON,
THE MOST OFTEN MISSED ROOT CANAL HAPPENS TO BE IN THE UPPER FIRST MOLAR. THIS TOOTH MAY SOMETIMES HAVE FOUR CANALS, ALTHOUGH THREE ARE USUALLY FILLED.
THE FIRST DENTIST SHOULD PAY FOR THE COST OF THE SECOND DENTIST FIXING THE PROBLEM. HAVE THE SECOND DENTIST WRITE A LETTER TO THE FIRST DENTIST OF HOW HE FIXED THE PROBLEM AND WHAT THE FIRST ONE SHOULD DO TO MAKE IT RIGHT.

If he missed it he should not charge you to do the procedure again. after all its not your fault. and no your not supposed to hurt after a root canal.
